Radiant Better Food And Drinks

Description

This mod changes all the vanilla food effects to be more realistic and lorefriendly with more useful and longer effects. I was annoyed not to find on divinity a buff duration on food which rarely allow you to do pre-fight buffs, that's the main reason of this mod existence. Look for the Google sheet link to see all the changes, and please read the introduction to know why and how i did this mod. (it's not that long !)

All Food and Drinks new effects and duration, as well as few new reciepes and receipe changes :

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kuFpRVN7c0h-3_P01CJGP8ZBefRgURk6WheygP-zC0g

Buffing before a fight is an intense pleasure i was so mad not to find in this game with food and drinks ... like most of rpg's and mmorpg's. Well, it's now fixed ! (Complexe meal have 50 turns duration, "Lazy" meal / Complexe drinks 30 turns duration, Small drinks and ingredients get 15 turn duration). This allow you to eat or drink before a fight while taking your time to read the dialogs or buff/summon more and still have the effects on while sh*t begins.

The buffs bestowed by food and drinks are now more and more powerful if you multiply cooking steps. That point was lacking in vanilla game. It's still pretty simple so don't worry much.

Food/drinks don't heal anymore. (Just because you eat a salmon pie won't make your wounds magically disapear ... for that you already have potions or spells. Period.)

I wanted buffs ... more realistic for sure but also more fitting with the thing you are going to put in your mouth.
As an example, Alcohol is known to be somekind of painkiller, or at least you suffer less while been drunk. So i added small armor/magic armor buffs to picture that. There are also some realistic downsides like Raw fish, egg and meat that now have a small chance to disease you (Because you know, Rivellon look like a dirty rude world). Anyway, Everything was thought for nice roleplaying !

Some reciepe ingredients or processes have been fixed for realism.

Some reciepes have been added for non craftable vanilla meals.

Some few new reciepes results have been added.

Remember Undead character can't get benefits from food (it's hard-coded, don't ask me that ... i can't do it).

2 reciepe books has been added in FortJoy and Reaper Coast, see the screenshot to have an idea where.

This mod is NOT compatible with crafting overhaul because i strongly dislike it, here is why :

- Craft has to stay simple in solo games, in the end you are alone in a world with no complexe economy or trade. You are just adding entries to create a permanent or ephemeral buff. And "permanent" can dangerously threaten difficulty balance, it's like a cheat.
- I don't need any more chaos in my inventory than it already is ... (Don't want to end up spending more time crafting while also getting upset with glitches/bugs in my inventory than playing the game and have real fun)
- Game difficulty is already fragile, if you add many reciepes like Crafting Overhaul do, it means a plethora of bonuses, means breaking difficulty bit by bit, and ultimately lead to easy/boring/broken games even in tactician.
- If there has to be one, only one allowed craft system in this game. I think that should be the good old ephemeral ingestion buff we know with food, drink and potions, and nothing else.

Also not compatible with "unlock all reciepe" mod, but just slightly : only thing is you won't see some of my new reciepes displayed in crafting menu. You will have to craft these once to fix the thing. Annoying, but not my fault if you know what i mean ...

You can find all my mods by searching "Radiant" in steam workshop, nexus, or civfanatics, which is a recurrent word in all my mod's tittles.

Even if they represent hundreds of working hours, I'm sharing my mods for free like most of mod creators. But deep down I'm really hoping you to do that little extra thing that would help me a lot : joining any of my pages (patreon, facebook, instagram). Just that really! Don't feel obliged to give something, with Patreon there is indeed a free option that grants you basic news/content and it will only take few seconds of your time. That being said I'm an artist irl and I sometimes struggle to put my personal projects on the saddle. By giving a little something or joining my ranks you can trigger a course of actions/reactions that might end up gathering more people around, thus helping me building the motivation and means to create more stuff to appreciate.

Hey there,

Yeah I just started playing DOS 2 in 2023, but I came across your mod and wanted to give thanks for your cool work. Loving the revamp of the food; makes more sense. I do think you might have forgot to edit cheese though, but whatever.

Anyway, thanks again!

I imagine you are not developing this any further, but just in case, would you consider increasing the duration of all food buffs by 10 times?

Having duration that are 50 turns or less make buffing from food an activity you have to engage in right before a battle, usually abusing meta knowledge of it. Instead, I think it would be better if food buffs could act as preparations that you do and last for the next 30 mins of gameplay. Ideally more to avoid a feeling of rushing because the time is ticking.

Side note, I think milk and honey is bugged. I don't start with more AP from it.

Found the answer to my own question: Divinity unleashed clears all buffs before combat

Does anyone know if this works with Divinity Unleashed? I tried it but it seems as though all buffs are cleared at the start of combat.

Love your mod. Exactly what I've been looking for. Finally food has unique effects in game and is not just an annoying-to-use version of potions anymore. So far this mod has been very balanced and even the Five-Star Dinner talent becomes useful now. Thank you!

Hi Kinu, you have an interesting mod, the idea is good, but I don't like removing the healing from food and adding disease to raw food, reading the initial description I want to download the mod, but as read the ending, the desire immediately disappears. Please, if it is not difficult for you, can the mod be slightly redone and remove the negative effects? I think many people will like this option more, I'm sure.

Couldn't disagree more about your Crafting Overhaul points. Shame... I wanted to use this but CO is invaluable. Would never sacrifice it for a mod that doesn't even do half what it does.

I am trying to make apple pie, but I only have the recipe for the dough... thoughts?

"- Craft has to stay simple" that's actually why I don't use the crafting overhaul mostly. too much added too much to do too much time spent crafting looting ersx6ztybedxsrb. if an adapted version of this mod based outside of vanilla's armor/magic armor becomes a thing, I may need this..
