Description
LOCKHEED-MARTIN

GENERAL
The USCSS Torrens, registration number MSV-7760, was a CM-93B/Bison M-Class commercial transport star ship privately owned and captained by Diane Verlaine, registered out of Saint Clair. The ship and her captain catered mostly to the upper end of the market, providing first and second class transport accommodations aboard the vessel. In 2137, the ship was chartered by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation to transport a small team to Sevastopol Station, where the flight recorder unit of the missing USCSS Nostromo had been recovered.

SYSTEMS
  • ATMOSPHERIC CAPABILITY
As an M-Class star ship, the Torrens retains the ability to enter the atmosphere of most rocky planetoids and set down using a set of six retractable landing gears. Once settled, the ship can then deploy a Craft-to-Surface lift to transport equipment and vehicles to and from the surface. The Ventral Science & Observation Blister affords a commanding view of off-loading operations and serves as an overlook and control center for ground-based missions.
  • SCUTTLE PROCEDURE
Being a sizable ship, the Torrens poses a significant risk to its surroundings if it becomes uncontrollable at faster-than-light velocities. It is for this reason that it, along with other hyperdrive-fitted star ships, is legally required to have an Emergency Destruction System. The locked interface is only available after a specific set of commands in Engineering Control, after which the user manually raises the fusion reactor control rods, forcing an overload. On activation, the ship will detonate in T Minus ten minutes. There is a cut-off system, but this option will expire after T Minus five minutes as the meltdown becomes irreversible.
  • VENTILATION
The Torrens, like any other star ship, is equipped with a sprawling complex of navigable air ventilation shafts. As the system is just large enough for the standard crewman or technician, several maintenance systems such as life-support and the air scrubbing plants are accessible within. Individually sealable ports array the ceilings and walls of most corridors aboard the ship, and serve to properly regulate the airflow and ensure the best long-term air conditioning.
  • TENDER / SHUTTLES
The Torrens is fitted with a modified Lock-Mart Starcub[S] Shuttlecraft “Solace” Reg. 7760-B1 for emergency evacuation and intrasystem away-missions. The Solace itself contains an additional two HS-150 hypersleep capsules. There is also a Short-Range Shuttle Bay on the port side of the Torrens, where even smaller vessels can refuel and dock, such as ambulances or intrastation transports.
  • TOWING / REFUELING
As the Torrens was retrofitted from a heavy company starfreighter, the choice was made to leave the original dorsal docking clamp used to tow or service stations, mobile refineries, or even salvaged ships. The ship is also refueled from this point, and in special circumstances, EVA may be necessary to service the exterior fuel line along a series of gantries. For personnel access, the Torrens comes with a dorsal medium crew and equipment lift hooked both to A-Deck and the Dorsal Service Hangar.
  • DOCKING
The Torrens, if unable to facilitate docking and disembarking via the shuttles, can manually hard dock to a station using the forward-mounted extendable Craft-to-Station docking platform, or by aligning the starboard Primary Airlock’s independent docking system to create an umbilical. As such maneuvers are typically delicate in nature, the Torrens comes equipped with minimal thrust RCS jets for finer adjustments.
  • POWER PRODUCTION
The Torrens contains two separate methods of power production. The electrical generator room controls batteries, non-essential lights, and hydrogen-fueled engines, and a manual breaker switch is present. The fusion reactor sustains every other part of the ship. Therefore, in service or emergency situations, an efficient conservation of power can be achieved through deactivating non-essential systems powered by the electrical generator.
  • SAFETY
The klaxons, hazard lights, and strobes aboard the Torrens come in great variety and are coded to respond to specific emergencies, such as pressure loss, dangerous proximity, or reactor hazards. Consistent with ICC regulations, the emergency lights are extremely noticeable to even the partially visually impaired, and intensify as the emergency situation does. ||| ICC Addendum 4/1/2133: As the lights are specifically designed to catch the attention of distracted crew in loud work environments where they may otherwise go unnoticed, they can be moderately disorienting to those with photosensitive epilepsy.
  • OBSERVATION / COMMS CONTROL
For mostly unobstructed observation in-flight, the Torrens has a pressurized dorsal observation cabin that can be extended upward beyond the hull’s outer skin as a means to sight stellar phenomena and to reset antenna alignment and range.

When would you say the full ship will be released? P.S have you thought of making the Narcissus? great builds keep it up!:steamhappy:

Once you do that and get the nasty subgrid lag out of the way, you can make it a fun, clonky ship
Foster 17 Sep, 2019 @ 10:29pm
Actually, it doesn't take much retooling to fix most of his later works.. removing the subgrids and applying current decorative block DLC is something I've been doing slowly but surely.

@Foster Dolans Design were brilliant BUT they were SO Massive they killed low and mid range PC's. They were more like set pieces or stages than actual ships you could use on a daily basis.BTW Nice Bridge design Infamous :D
Foster 17 Sep, 2019 @ 9:12pm
Or just do a whole remodeling of the bridge area.. make it wider, stretch it back into the main super structure.. give it a proper observation deck
Foster 17 Sep, 2019 @ 7:43pm
Dolan was a massive inspiration for a lot of engineers, it's a shame he seems to have vanished.. but anyhow, good work with the bridge module! I'll probably replace the small decorative gridding with something a bit less compact to give it a more "Open and civilian" feeling

Can't agree more. Shame they left, haven't been active in almost a year.

You should check out Dolan's work. They've done some amazing ships in the style of the Nostromo (specifically the B-197 Mitchell, G-301 Dora, and E-106 Roxie): https://steamproxy.net/profiles/76561197988285220/myworkshopfiles/

The one with the gas giant is the upcoming Star Cruiser USCSS "Torrens" using this bridge.
