Weißenburg - Schranne (Market hall)

In 1 collection by MB
Weißenburg i. Bay.
23 items
Description
The "Schranne", a distinctive red-white brick building, is used as a market and event hall. It replaces former buildings like a small church and a salt depot, which too had been used as trading buildings in their latter times. The new building from 1864 by architect Eduard Bürklein has some resemblance to these prior buildings.

@Lennep Thanks for the tips!

If you're using Gimp to make your texture files there's a normal map plugin that you can download and install - it's free, of course :-) Not sure about Photoshop but I guess it has a built-in feature.
Then you create your normal map by running the filter over your finished diffuse map.
Well, that's my simple method anyway. It seems to work fine.

There are some settings that you can adjust when you apply the filter. It seems that to get the perfect effect we need to invert the red channel (or, in the Gimp filter dialogue box, invert the y axis):

Good luck!

@Lennep
I read about the normal map and tried it once but it didn't work out as expected. Probably I misunderstood something or I don't have the right software to generate them.

I'm enjoying your models too. Adding a normal map is a time-saving alternative to adding lots of extra geometry. The buildings are fairly small after all. I've added a normal map to some of your models myself and the result looks great.

@Lascivia I am aware of this. As I said for another model my focus currently to get the collection somewhat complete within a reasonable time frame. Already now one model takes up 2-3 full days on average! I can improve them later if I have the time.

I like your assets. Just a tip. It would not be a mortal sin to slightly increase the triangles. Your model windows all look a bit flat. By pushing a little more your models can become small masterpieces

Just pushed a small correction and also corrected the model name. If you already have this building in your map by now, you will get a notification about the missing asset and have to place it again. I promise I won't change the name another time. :cozyteddymoo:

It's actually one of my favourite buildings in this town.
