About this map
This Dutch/European styled map is inspired by the city of Bergen op Zoom, which is located in The Netherlands. During my daytime job I saw how beautifully this area is and was surprised there wasn't a map already available. The name 'Montibus ad Mare' is latin for 'Mountains by the sea', which is the closest available translation of the original city name.

The city is protected by multiple rings of dikes surrounding the area to protect it from the sea. To make it even more interesting, right between the city and the sea is a canal. This canal connects the Schelde river in Belgium to the Rhine river in The Netherlands and is called The Schelde-Rhine Canal. Some places in this map are constantly semi-flooded, this is intended since this is also the case in real life.

If you like the map, please rate and comment =)! Have fun!

Requirements
There are some requirements to use this map; You will need the network extension 2.0 mod, the central European theme mod, the Oak tree asset and the Living Oak tree asset. All mentioned are downloadable from the steam workshop and are added to this map as a requirement, so you don’t have to look for the mods yourself.

Recommended mods
81 Tiles - to build on the whole map.
Unlimited Trees Mod - to place more trees, since this map already has 240k trees.
Traffic Manager: President Edition [STABLE] to let the traffic make better use of the 2 lane highways which are in this map (make sure Dynamic Lane selection is enabled in the modmenu)

Hi, I live here, and considering you seem to have taken an interest in the area you might be interested to know the closest translation to English would actually be "harbor on the edge"

Bergen, while meaning mountains, is also an old Dutch word for harbor and Bergen op Zoom has been a harbor of military significance in it's past. If I were to guess the old usage of bergen as harbor is related to the verb bergen which means to recover from sea, or to store.

The word Zoom has nothing to do with the sea, but is used to point to an edge or seam. In the case of Bergen op Zoom, the edge referred to would be that of the "Brabantse Wal" the name of the SW part of a sand ridge going diagonally through the entire country, which was pushed up by a glacier in the last glacial period. Bergen op Zoom is on the edge of this ridge.

So the best translation would be Harbor on the Edge.

There is actually a Bergen aan Zee in the north of the country, which would be translated as harbor at the sea.

Hoort Maraens trompetten!
Siet hoe komt hij trecken aen,
Bergen te bezetten.
Berg op Zoom hout u vroom,
Stut de Spaensche scharen;
Laet 's Lands boom end' sijn stroom
Trouwlijck doen bewaren!

't Moedige, bloedige, woedige swaerd
Blonck en het klonck, dat de vonken daeruijt vlogen.
Beving en leving, opgeving der aerd,
Wonder gedonder nu onder was nu boven;
Door al 't mijnen en 't geschut,
Dat men daeglijcx hoorde,
Menig Spanjaert in sijn hut
In sijn bloed versmoorde.
Berg op Zoom hout sich vroom,
't Stut de Spaensche scharen;
't Heeft 's Lands boom end' sijn stroom
Trouwlijck doen bewaren!

@pera

Which fields are you referring to? The description states: " Some places in this map are constantly semi-flooded, this is intended since this is also the case in real life."

If you mean fields that are behind the dike (sea-protected area), then please upload a picture of it so I can see if it needs any fixing.

why the fields are unter water?

Here [ibb.co] you can download the overlay image I used. Probably it is not usable for recreating the whole city. Though you might be able to make a new overlay image with another zoom level by using this image as a reference. If you can't figure it out, I can help you getting a better image. Just let me know!

Also, feel free to share images or videos of your recreated city, I'm very curious!:D:
