[WOTC] Repeater Sting

Description
This mod changes the deafult Repeater attachment to a Suppressor, which provides Sting charges (as the Reaper ability). Also reduces the cooldown for the Reaper's Sting ability to match this ability's cooldown. Both this change and the number of charges granted at each attachment tier are ini-configurable.

Default values:
Cooldown: 3 turns
Basic Suppressor: 1 Charge
Advanced Suppressor: 2 Charges
Superior Suppressor: 3 Charges

The Sting granted by a Suppressor requires ammo like the normal Sting, and action points variable with the weapon it's equipped to. On Sniper Rifles and Vektor Rifles it requires 2 Action Points (like Deadeye). On all other weapons it requires 1 Action Point but is turn-ending (like a normal rifle shot). Functional on all classes including SPARKs. It should even work on the Templar's autopistol (not that you'd want to do that) if you have another mod that lets you add attachments to secondary weapons. Currently can be used even when not concealed; identical to a standard shot in that case so you just waste a charge.

Uses some code borrowed from DerBK's Better Repeater mod. Conflicts with any other mod that affects the Repeater attachment.

Planned but not yet implemented:
- Support for the attachment bonus Resistance order
- Aim/Crit maluses by tier (configurable/removable)

Desirable but not yet planned:
- Support for pistols
- Hide from UI when soldier is not concealed
- Weapon type restriction (by default no shotguns/cannons; configurable)
- Integration with existing Sting ability on Reaper class

Not planned:
- Vanilla XCOM 2 version

Yes, you're welcome to create an improved version if you like.

Hi @AdmiralKirk, I see you never updated the mod, do you have any plans to implement your planned/desirable features? if not, would you be willing to give permission to someone else to publish an updated version?

That should be safe but I can’t guarantee it.

Just to be safe since I don't see this asked anywhere in the comments, is this mod safe to add mid-campaign?

And weapons with Repeaters already attached (or innately attached) will be replaced with Suppressors and get the Sting as well, right?

Question: does this mod changes the Reaper Sting from having 1 charge only? If not, the 3-turn cooldown change doesn't mean much for Reapers. Thanks!

Funny you say that. I'm subscribed to this comment section but not the mod itself, and probably never was. I found the concept nice and in line with realistic purpose of silencers, but was scared to use it because i have too many anecdotes of repeaters saving my ass.

Hmm, this sounds like more balanced and realistic than the vanilla Repeater. I am wondering why it isn't more highly subscribed?

@AdmiralKirk Thanks for the info. I don't know how it works as it's not my mod and I don't actually do any modding myself, but it sounds like it should work, I think? I guess I'll have to try it and report back. :)

Lago,
I like that idea and will implement that in the next update. And don't worry, it will be ini configurable.

Philadelphus,
That depends on how that mod works. I've not used it before. This mod does not grant an instance of Sting to a soldier equipped with a Suppressor; it provides a modified copy of Sting that's a separate entity in the game. So if all your mod does is replace charge costs for each *base* X2 ability with a cooldown, then it should not conflict and Suppressors would retain their charge cost from this mod. If it routinely replaces *every* charge cost with a cooldown in a PostTemplatesCreated event, then it might conflict depending on which patch X2 decides to apply first.
