Fortress Borders

Description
This mod adds cultural borders to fortresses expanded one tile away. This mod will allow you to claim resources or expand your borders without building cities you don't want to have. You can also now support battle lines far outside of your territory, by building a fortress to protect a pass or strategic point.

Features:
- Once built, a fort tile and all adjacent tiles will belong to the player who built it
- If a fort is unoccupied for 5 turns, the land will return to nature as long as it is not within 5 plots of a city.
- If a fort has been unoccupied and lost ownership, any player can occupy it by placing a unit inside.
- If a fort is ever occupied by an enemy unit, the enemy player will gain control of the fort and land around it.
- Forts now cost 1 gold per turn to maintain.

Future features:
- Citadels will have borders expanded up to two tiles away.
- A fort built near or in enemy territory will expand borders only if there is no enemy fort nearby.

Patch Notes

Patch 1:
- Citadels will now have cultural borders as well
- A fort built near friendly territory will not expand borders into that friendly territory.

Patch 2:
- Fixed a bug where forts were not expanding borders on some versions of Civ

Patch 3:
- Set fort cost per turn to 3g
- Set Citadel cost per turn to 5g

Borders around Forts tend to go missing or are incorrectly assigned. Any help?

Can you make it so that the culture borders are removed if the fortress is removed, provided these tiles don't belong to a city?

Why is this mod not working for me? I've enabled it in the game menu itself

I think fort claiming only its own tile is more balanced, all adjancent is too much.

I attempted to play this in a MP game with teams of 2. When my teammate built forts, they showed up as my territory instead of my teammate's. The territory around the fortress would also randomly disappear a few turns after they were built, sometimes to reappear randomly. How would one go about fixing that?

Hello. In this version it looks a bit overpowered, can you please make it cost more gold? Like 10 for example. Otherwise u can just control every lux u want without loosing anything

:steamthis: You should not use this mod with Community Patch. :steamthis:

It seems it creates a bug where Citadels have tiles controlled by them forever after capturing or obtaining adjanted cities. Moving units over there or building forts nearby doesn't help. You will notice this only in mid-game or later, and this might ruin fun significantly.

You can definitely build fortresses outside of your borders, though I can't confirm the "unassignable tiles" bug. I just finished a game with it, and worked like a charm.

To the people saying this doesn't work, note that a military unit HAS TO OCCUPY the fort within a few turns of it being built, otherwise it's back to neutral territory, until you or someone occupies it.

Cheers for the great mod

Bugs:

1) Can't build outside of borders (I'm ok with this tbh)
2) If built within a cities radius before that city expands normally or via gold purchase, then those tiles are unassignable as manually controlled pops!!! Not quite game breaking, but so fucking annoying to make me was to remove this mod from my rotation

Hi, so I'm using the American Domination mod and this mod doesn't work with the American exclusive Hardened Fort. Would you be willing to help walk me through the process of making that happen?

Someone in the comments mentioned that this mod makes forts deal damage to units adjacent to them like citadels. Is this true?
