Operation Grindstone

Description
Introduction
Due to the rapid and uncontrollable deterioration of relations between the United States and the CSAT alliance, the outbreak of war has been inevetable. Operation Grindstone represents the first officially sanctioned operation against the CSAT alliance, a full scale mobilization of troops aimed at taking control of the island of Altis.

Situation
We've managed to secure a large portion of Altis over the past 24 hours, however isolated pockets of enemy resistance still pose a threat to our units. Thanks to our guys over at tech, most of the enemy have been without comms since the invasion began, and many will be unaware of what is going on. You have been tasked with eliminating an enemy garrison occupying the town of Syrta, UAV recon estimates their number between 10 and 15.

We've had other units report that CSAT units without knowledge of the invasion have shifted to an alert phase, running continous patrols in their sectors.

Execution
You will move from your insertion point into the town of Syrta, eliminate any CSAT patrols you find and secure the town. We're running low on available manpower, so you'll be going in alone - however if enemy resistance proves substantial we will task a drone to your sector to provide you with intel.

About
This mission can be played in either Singleplayer or 2 Player CO-OP. When playing in Co-Op you will have the ability to respawn, however enemies will be more difficult to kill and the number of enemies will be increased to 15 (from 10 in singleplayer). Once you've eliminated 2/3 of the enemy forces, a drone will come on station to provide you with (almost) real-time position updates on the remaining enemy forces. You can check their positions on your map. You've also been given a MediKit, so you will be able to heal yourself completely as many times as you need.

This mission has been designed to force you to play cautiously, and will reward you greatly if you do so. Take it slow, check your corners, avoid remaining in the same position after engaging a patrol and always move from cover to cover - assume that you could be fired upon at any point and try to always be in a good position should that happen.

I can confirm that I start inside the building and there's no crate, i searched in a fan away from the town

I turned off bCombat, put the game to novice and got around without a scratch, only one fired upon me. And did almost everything walking (ctrl+c).
The bCombat mod makes all the soldiers that hear the shots start to search for you. Still didn't find the weapon crate, walked a few hundred meters away from the town.

Thanks for replying. Can't find a crate behind me. At what distance should it be? I am starting near small cabin/barn near the city. Inside the barn is also nothing. There's a weapon crate behind you when you start, you can switch out what you're running for anything you prefer if you feel that will help. For the most part, the goal is to take advantage of angles, cover and concealment to get the drop on the AI and ensure you can drop them before they get you.
I haven't tried playing this with bCombat, but from what I recall, you may have good luck with the use of smoke to mask your movements. I'd also recommend, as with most asymmetric fights, to continue moving and remain unpredictable. The AI will attempt to encircle you, so it's always a good idea to slip out of the "noose" after taking out one or two, flank around to a new position and engage them from behind.

Alternatively, grab the biggest rifle you can find, hide far away and use range and patience to your advantage. Unfortunately, Syrta isn't well endowed with good sniper perches, so good luck trying that approach.

Any tips / guides? I played OFP 16 years ago, now trying to get skilled in ARMA3. Got this mission tipped for training but it is way harder than expected. I manage to see the bots first, but they manage to kill me first. Can't hit them.
The default weapon is useless at 250+ meters. No bipod, is that an option anyways? I see youtube video's where they are using sniper weapons, thermal imaging etc. Did I miss something?
