[OpTre] Halo | VJ Covenant NPCs

In 1 collection by Mackaye
Operation: Trebuchet Content Pack
75 items
Description
"The Covenant Empire, also referred to as The Covenant, was a theocratic hegemony made up of multiple alien species that maintained control over a large portion of the Orion Arm in the Milky Way galaxy. The Covenant was a political, military, and religious affiliation, originally a mutual alliance between the San'Shyuum and Sangheili following a brutal conflict between the two warring races. Its expansion to include at least six other races united in the worship of the Forerunners and the Halo Array soon began after the original formation."

"Operation: Trebuchet" is a large-scale project for Garrys Mod, with the creation of high-quality assets in mind, inspired by the "Eridanus Insurrection" mod for ARMA 3. While initially being it's own, standalone server with custom content, the project has grown into a past-time of mine, with assets being released to the general public for their own entertainment.

Tl;dr:
This is an NPC collection, built off of the existing VJ Base, designed around the Covenant and making a collection of good-looking, and good-sounding NPCs taking the best elements of the Covenant, from each of their iterations. They're cool, and you should totally tell all your friends.

Species
Brutes
The Brute NPCs are built off the original Halo 3 era models, with Reach era armour. I aimed to get that sort of tribal feel, while keeping the aesthetic of the Halo 3 brute. No shielding, but they take a ton of damage to put down. Explosives are your friend, here.

Elites
The Elites in this pack are based off of the Halo 2 Anniversary models, with additions from Reach in there for good mix - in this case, the ranger and ultra helmet (which I used for zealots, cause I thought it looked cooler). They have energy shielding, which matches that in-game. Recharging can be interrupted mid-way, and once it's down, they'll start to take proper damage. Health damage taken remains gone - but shield does not.

Oh, and there are versions with energy swords, and cloak. Because who needs sleep, am I right?

Jackals
With infantry holding carbines and needle rifles, to officers and captains carrying the good-old shining energy shields, these guys come in two flavours. I couldn't decide whether to go for the Reach era jackal graphics, or go for the Halo 4 era dino-looking guys. So, I did both. They behave identically, pretty much.

Grunts
Everyone's favourite cannon fodder - the grunts are smaller than the rest, but they make up for it by having adorably high pitched voices, and being relatively easy to shoot. Don't mistake their prowess, though - despite being larger than life walking meat shields, these guys do actually pack a punch, given the weaponry they have. Shoot their backpack off though, and they'll panic, dropping their weapon and running off - all while suffocating. You monster.

Hunters
Absolute units. These guys are t o u g h to take down. Their armour is impervious to almost everything bar high-explosives, so you'll want to aim for the exposed worms. The neck, and the back, are your two best options. If they take enough damage to the back, eventually the armour will break off, allowing for maximum damage to be handed out. Just be warned - each variant behaves differently, from the red-stained flood purifier, to the traditional blue-armoured beam cannon.

Weaponry
Plasma Weaponry
Hope you like plasma burns! These weapons have minimal splash damage, but do a lot on a direct hit. They travel fast, but aren't instantaneous, so you CAN dodge them if you're fast enough. Just don't bank on it - a near miss might still do some damage. They do, however, leave some neat custom decals ripped straight from Halo 3.

These are:
Plasma Pistol
Plasma Rifle
Brute Plasma Rifle
Plasma Repeater
Storm Rifle

Needle Weaponry
Do you like explosions? Do you like homing projectiles? Do you like exploding homing projectiles? These will be for you. They fire needles, that, well, do what you think they do. Similar to the games - they add to the player's total needle count, and if you get hit too many times too quickly - well, boom goes the dynamite.

These are:
Needle Rifle
Needler

Hitscan Weaponry
Near-instant pain. They're direct hits as soon as the weapon is fired, but they do less damage to compensate. Some are long-range snipers, and have cool effects like cooldown/warmup periods. Others are close-range, and so the NPC will actively bumrush to use them effectively. Either way, if you want to re-enact your Halo 2 Legendary days, just pump damage up to 1000 and whap these out.

These are:
Covenant Carbine
Beam Rifle
Focus Rifle
Mauler

The Spiker
Special enough to have his own little section, the Brute Spiker acts like the needler but without homing. Or exploding. The spikes do stick into things, though, which is cool I guess.

Explosive Weaponry
Fuel Rods, Brute Shots... You get the deal. If you seriously read this far down, props to you, mate. You deserve a cookie or somethin.

Requirements:
>VJ BASE<
The only real requirement for this to work. Without it, the NPCs and their weapons won't even be able to spawn, given that they all derive from various elements of the framework.

Credits:
Mackaye99 - Mesh porting of the brutes and jackals, rigging, texture work, SWEPs, sound work and NPC coding.
Valkyries733 - Grunt models, hunter models, and the brute's armour all came from this guy.
Unknown Dude - Whoever got me the initial H2A Elite model, ripped from Killer Instinct. (Feel free to ping me a message if you remember giving it to me, I can swap your name in here)
Srgt. Shotup - Storm Jackal armour shader/material stuff.
343 Industries/Bungie - Initial Halo assets.
Adjutant - For being an awesome program that facilitated most of the ripping involved in this.

This asset is provided as-is, and is free to use by all. However, I ask that you do not repackage, reupload, or take assets from this pack without my express permission. That'd be a ♥♥♥♥ move.

Any questions, ask away in the comments.
