My name is John Harris. I'm 29 years old and I'm a police officer on Altis.
When I was 5 years old, I saw shadows moving. When I was around 12, I heard voices in my head. At first I thought they would go away... but sadly they didn't.
When I was 13 years old, my mother took me to a psychiatrist to help me cope with this problem. Together with the doctor, we agreed to try a new kind of medication. I would be the very first one to try it. I am glad that I agreed to this because it worked! I could function normally and live my life. However, I am really dependent on this medication. When I forget to take it, I will see things... hear thing... that aren't there.
Last night we had a party with colleagues. How I got how, I do not remember. But what is worrying to me is that I don't remember taking my medication. The best I can do now is head out and get my meds before I start to freak out.

this is made to spread awareness about Schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder that affects less than one percent of the U.S. population. When schizophrenia is active, symptoms can include delusions, hallucinations, trouble with thinking and concentration, and lack of motivation. However, with treatment, most symptoms of schizophrenia will greatly improve.

While there is no cure for schizophrenia, research is leading to new, safer treatments. Experts also are unraveling the causes of the disease by studying genetics, conducting behavioral research, and using advanced imaging to look at the brain’s structure and function. These approaches hold the promise of new, more effective therapies.

The complexity of schizophrenia may help explain why there are misconceptions about the disease. Schizophrenia does not mean split personality or multiple-personality. Most people with schizophrenia are not dangerous or violent. They also are not homeless nor do they live in hospitals. Most people with schizophrenia live with family, in group homes or on their own.

Research has shown that schizophrenia affects men and women about equally but may have an earlier onset in males. Rates are similar around the world. People with schizophrenia are more likely to die younger than the general population, in part because of high rates of co-occurring medical conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes.

Symptoms
When the disease is active, it can be characterized by episodes in which the patient is unable to distinguish between real and unreal experiences. As with any illness, the severity, duration and frequency of symptoms can vary; however, in persons with schizophrenia, the incidence of severe psychotic symptoms often decreases during a patient’s lifetime. Not taking medications as prescribed, use of alcohol or illicit drugs, and stressful situations tend to increase symptoms. Symptoms fall into several categories:

Positive psychotic symptoms: Hallucinations, such as hearing voices, paranoid delusions and exaggerated or distorted perceptions, beliefs and behaviors.
Negative symptoms: A loss or a decrease in the ability to initiate plans, speak, express emotion or find pleasure.
Disorganization symptoms: Confused and disordered thinking and speech, trouble with logical thinking and sometimes bizarre behavior or abnormal movements.
Impaired cognition: Problems with attention, concentration, memory and declining educational performance.

Symptoms usually first appear in early adulthood. Men often experience symptoms in their late teens or early 20s and women often first show signs in their 20s and early 30s. More subtle signs may be present earlier, including troubled relationships, poor school performance and reduced motivation.

Before a diagnosis can be made, however, a psychiatrist should conduct a thorough medical examination to rule out substance misuse or other neurological or medical illnesses whose symptoms mimic schizophrenia.

@Payne, I am glad you get some enjoyable time in these harsh days.

I understand the issues, I recognize them aswell, those are indeed some flaws. This is one of my first projects, so I had a lot to learn ( I still do :P). In the future I hope to release another 'awareness" mission, however this time implemented with the lessons I learned along the road.
I have not really planned a remake version of this yet since I have other idea's I want to persue first.

I hope to learn more during the years so I can try to become a "real" game designer. I am still a student Nurse but I hope to switch to the gaming industry. So feedback like this really helps a lot, especially to make me grow as a better "entertainer". Because my main goal is to let people, like you, have a great time with the free time they have in this busy demanding world.

Overall, very enjoyable and I think effective at conveying your message. Thanks for doing it man. I'm enjoying your missions quite a bit these days. In guiding the player you sure have an eye for good game design. I have a few issues with it though:

- No PD is going to make a schizophenia patient a police officer. I know police has a habit of seeing weapons that aren't there in some parts of the world, but still. :)
- We fight a monster on the road. I died here because I didn't think I was expected to fight back and just pushed on. What are we doing firing at a visual hallucination really? And what's a hallucination doing killing us?
- Why is our gear on top of a lighthouse? Why is there a barricaded sofa blocking a door? You can do scares without illogical placements of things.
- Those voices of people speaking over each other. Those are great. More of those and less monster sounds. Monster sounds aren't scary.

@Alkanet,
You are able to kill the thing. I played the mission 10 times to test it and in every walkthrough I was able to kill it before it killed me. It is hard tho, you need to heal in combat. ( that is the secret)
There is another section after the thing.

Thanks you very much for the feedback! :) I try to inform people about it , on a creative way.
It is a horrible mental illness and I feel sorry for all who are diagnosed with it. I hope we are able to cure it on one day.
