T-34

Perhaps one of the most influential tanks ever created, the T-34 was developed from the BT tanks designed to replaced them and the T-26 in the soviet army. The resulting vehicle combined the firepower of the KV tanks with the speed of the BT tanks while retaining efficient armor. Instantly successful, it inspired the design of the legendary german Panther tank and it's own legacy continued in multiple russian successors. The original version had a short barrelled 76mm gun, which was upgraded to a more powerful one in 1941, with a larger, hexagonal turret replacing the original in 1942-1943. Originally meant to be succeeded by the T-43, it was instead replaced by it's own upgraded version, the T-34-85, though a number remained in service, some to this day.

T-34-57

Nicknamed the "Exterminator", the T-34-57 was designed as a dedicated anti-tank variant of the T-34. using a high velocity 57mm gun. While initially promising, the project was dropped over fears it would disrupt regular T-34 production with only 10 vehicles made. In 1943 a second variant was created, using the new T-34 turret, but it was cancelled in favor of the T-34-85 after only 1 was made.
