Firefly-class "Serenity" - 2022

Description
Firefly-class Mid-Bulk Transport "Serenity"
-- from the 2002 Fox TV show Firefly (not the movie version)
Tier 4 | Unlock level: 20 | Size Class: 4

*** 1/13/2022: Updated for v1.7 - Rearranged interior devices to make room for a shield generator; you may install in the aft engine area above passenger dorms now if you wish! (see photos for area with "SG" column)
Also changed/updated some outdated things- adding T4 CPU units, removing RCS, etc.
Added separate low cost / steel version with T3 CPU and no XL thrusters (see additional downloads).

Firefly-class "Serenity" 2022 Low Cost / Steel Version

"You can know all the math in the 'Verse, but take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her home."

Scratch-built and designed to be the most accurate 1:1 replica of Serenity as possible with the given blocks, whilst remaining a reasonably robust and useful in-game ship. I feel there is no better way to bring Serenity to life as anything other than a CV. Feedback is welcomed and I will try to make adjustments accordingly.

The entirety of her exterior hull and infastructure is Combat Steel, with the majority of interior decorative walls and components composed of regular Steel to save on weight and cost. Most of her hull is no more than 1 block thick. Remember; she's not a combat vessel or a rally car-- she's a home. I've designed the ship around being as accurate as possible to Serenity within reason. Not all of it makes logical sense, and not all of it is 100% accurate due to in-game limitations and the fact that the show set layout didn't perfectly match Serenity's hull shape (e.g., cargo bay floor height vs aft deck, shuttle airlock height).

Every single block of this ship has been individually textured and colored with a custom palette as close to Serenity as I can interpret. A big thanks goes to CGI Artist Pierre Drolet for his Firefly TV show Serenity renderings as reference material of the exterior, and QMx's official Serenity Blueprints for the more obscure parts of the interior and inner workings.

This is a replica of the Firefly TV SHOW redesigned Serenity. Not the Serenity movie rebuilt/restyled Serenity, and not the pilot episode / rough draft Serenity. There are major design differences between all three, and this one is the one I believe best represents Serenity. The movie serenity may have been more detailed, but had to be built from scratch after the original set was lost.

Features:
  • Fully oxygenated environment
  • All devices/lights/equipment/deco labeled and mapped
  • 8x large generators, 1x small generator
  • Advanced Constructor
  • Warp capable
  • 10x growing plots (not canon!- located inside galley port side pantry)
  • 2x shuttle bays (shuttles & mule available above)
  • Infirmary with Medical stations 1, 2, 3, and 4 and Medic Station (in wall).

  • "Hidden" compartment:
Fireflies are known to have them "troublesome little nooks"- port side wall of the cargo bay is lined with camouflaged container extensions accessible through the controller next to the constructor. Not exactly hidden, but you get the reference.

Custom switches:
  • "MainThrusters"
Activates/deactivates the port and starboard XL thrusters, as they use the most fuel. Can be useful for saving fuel when cruising in space.

  • "MainPower"
Set this custom switch in control panel to OFF to deactivate everything but the auxiliary small generator, refrigerators, grow lights, and grow room ventilator to keep food and plants from spoiling as long as possible. I believe with 100% fuel they will stay powered for about 70 hours.

  • "RunningLights"
Activates/deactivates exterior hull flare running lights.

  • "LandingLights"
Activates/deactivates exterior landing lights under the neck and both wings.
Signals:
  • "Bridge Airlock"
This signal is there mainly to keep the bridge airlock doors from automatically opening / closing when moving toward them. Can be used to open/close both bridge airlock doors in tandem.

  • "RDoorAlwaysOpen"
Signal that keeps the door between the cargo bay and the infirmary/lounge section open all the time. This was a matter of personal preference and can be removed if you want the door to act normal.
Notes:
  • The Medic Station for restoring HP is slightly hidden / camouflaged with the wall in the infirmary between the cabinets and the counter on the right side. It is worth pointing out so you are aware that all medical operations can be performed inside the infirmary and the orientation of the medic station is only for looks.
  • The port maintenance access (second deck of cargo bay, port side aft door) leads to a long space filled with deco blocks like capacitors. Feel free to replace with whatever suits your needs. There are several empty spaces like these throughout the hull that can be filled with equipment and such, but some of them may only be easily accessible in creative mode.
  • If you don't like the browned-steel color of the TV show Serenity, you can simply lower the saturation value of the two main hull colors to make it grey (Obvious, but worth mentioning).

I put a lot of love and time into this ship. I hope you all enjoy exploring the 'verse with Serenity.

Shiny Cap'n. She'll keep me Flyin' for a bit and with the shuttles that opens up options.

Awesome work on this ship! Any chance for a weaponized version? (yes I know sacrilegious statement). But for practicality game purposes it would help to be able to fight off baddies.

I am very impressed. I lot of "show" ships have a hard time being recreated to the extent you have done here. When running through it feels very true to the show. Great Job!
