English Steam Mill

In 1 collection by Keukotis
Buildings for those that don't have buildings.
8 items
Description
Gives England a unique building, the Steam Mill, which replaces Factory.

Steam Mill is available one technology sooner (Economics instead of Industrialization) to represent England beginning the Industrial Revolution. Mechanically, this also means England is able to pick an Ideology sooner than other civilizations, because building three Steam Mills will allow this just like building three Factories does. Because you wouldn't have access to Coal at Economics, the Steam Mill has no resource requirement. Instead, it adds +2 Production to the four resources that you could use as fuel (Whales, Coal, Oil, and Uranium).

To make room for a unique, the Ship-of-the-Line has been removed.

Because of the way this was built, it does unfortunately require Brave New World. I do not plan to make a version for Gods & Kings or the base game.

This sounded great and much needed until I saw the part about the Navy. Still good work though

I won't release another version because I don't even have this game or its mod tools installed now, but this is extremely easy to do in the XML. Find wherever I removed Ship-of-the-Line and edit that single line to remove longbowman instead. It's a very simple change.

Could you kindly please release an alternate version wherer it replaces the longbowmen?

Nice mod, I really like it but is there any way I can modify the XML to make it unique to another civ ot available to all civs? I play a lot of games with custom civs so its not much use to me if its only available to england, i've tried fiddling with the XML a bit but I'm no expert and so far its all been to no avail.

England is a naval civilization, through and through. To remove their iconic naval unit for a fancy factory is absurd.

Combine this with the medieval era mod and you can be the only civ with an ideology as the techs don't go above medieval! Awesome!

Interested in an answer to zArkham4269's question myself. Would really like a compatible version of this to go along with JFD's Englands.

How does this mod work with mods which alter England. For example, JFD has come out with a mod which splits England into Victoria and Elizabeth. Both have two UU's. WIll your mod overwrite theirs in regard to deleting a unit?

Disregarding my earlier settling of the dispute of whether or not which unit is better I actually quite like the building itself. While it is a fair bit weaker thanthe SotL this still gives England dominance pre-Industrial era onwards. My personal bias however would also be to instead remove the longbowman and also nerf this building as it gets more powerful as you progress down the tech path. I could suggest a couple nerfs but I'll leave that to your decision if you decide to take note of my comment. Still a very nice building, keep up the great work. ;)

Both units are fantastic for their own purposes. SotL guarantees naval dominance for a very long time up until battleships. Longbowmen are essentially artillery at the renaissance. However longbowman is much weaker in the longrun. While the longbowman gives the gats an extra range I often do not use gatling guns as long range units anyway. They are mostly meant for holding down a defensive line within your territory as your offensive units strike. On the flip side however putting this building along with SotL makes England stronger than it already is. The extra production and no required coal gives England such an immense advantage as the SotL starts taking cities as this means you can immediately take Autocracy and deal with the unhappiness right away. There's two options that I suggest, note suggest, to makes this mod a bit more balanced. Remove longbows but debuff SotL or remove SotL and buff longbows.
