Master. We're in a tight spot!
The purpose of this guide is to tell you a few tips and tricks that are otherwise not really referenced or specifically stated in the game.

This guide will be regularly updated with things I can remember or otherwise told by fellow killer7 veterans/friends.

Screenshots will come soon for some clarity. Some may be placeholders from the GC version until I can get a hold of ones from the port.
Differences in the "Deadly" difficulty
On Deadly difficulty, puzzles have less hints within the puzzle solving itself. An example of this would be the Candlestick puzzle from the first chapter "Angel". On normal, the Candlesticks have numbers on each stick to help you. On Deadly, these are not present. Information from Yoon-Hyun remains the same however.

There will be quite a few more enemies in certain rooms than you'd otherwise face on Normal difficulty. Some boss battles may be a little tougher and in others you might not notice a difference.

On Normal difficulty you can hold up to 20 Thin Blood Vials, while Deadly only allows you to carry 10.

There isn't really much to say here. In all honesty I'd consider "Deadly" your normal mode and more of a challenge than Normal itself.

Spoilers below, this is not some spoiler-meme, beware:
Killer8 mode is unlocked once you beat the game on any difficulty. Killer8 unlocks an entirely new personality which is young Harman Smith. Enemies are significantly more harder and will kill any personality except MASK De Smith and young Harman Smith in one hit. Critical spots are also invisible and the map "legend" is completely gone.
Getting the most out of your "Thick Blood"

Thick Blood is used to upgrade the stats and abilities of all the personalities. This is done by converting Thick Blood into serum at the Blood Doctor in Harman's Room.

The best way to get the most blood out of enemies is of course by shooting their critical spots. However you can get a tiny bit more if you knock off a few limbs before you make that final blow.

You can mash the A button (or left click) at the blood pumping machine to make it go faster. Each level has a cap on the amount of blood you can turn into serum. Don't worry though, there is plenty in each level.
"Thin Blood" and its uses

Within the bottom right corner of the Pause Menu you'll find Thin Blood vials. These are used to heal your personalities and also perform abilities. You can acquire them the same way you acquire Thick Blood.

To use them as healing items, you simply select them in the menu and tap A. If you're using keyboard+mouse controls, you can tap H for a quick heal (assuming you haven't rebound it). Abilities automatically use Thin Blood vials when you perform them.

It should also be noted that all personalities have seperate health.
Dealing with different Heaven Smiles
These are some (not all!) of the more unique Heaven Smiles and some methods on how to deal with them.

Camellia Smiles
The Camellia Smiles never attack. They are absolutely terrified of you! You can recognize these by their white bodies covered in splotches of blood. Killing these will result in a large amount of thick blood (if my estimation is correct, 120 to be exact, though it may vary).

You may be stopping and waiting for that perfect moment to hit their weak spot. Perhaps with Kaede Smith or Dan Smith. However this is one of the few smiles you don't need to hit the critical spot to get ALL the blood with. Mow em down with anybody who has enough upgrades in their power and you'll have all the blood anyway. This method is less risky than trying to aim and miss their critical spots.

Micro Smiles

Micro Smiles are the tiny floaty things that emit "choir" like noises in the distance for you to easily know when they're around

Micro Smiles do no damage to you, they will just blind you for a time making it difficult to deal with enemies.

There are actually two variants of Micro Smiles:
  • Black and Yellow, which will completely restore the health of all your personalities and awaken any that are sleeping, regardless of how many more Smiles you need to kill unlock them.

  • Red and Blue, which will give you quite a bit of thick blood.
Backside Smiles

Backside Smiles can be a pain in the butt (get it?). They're the large floating ones that have blades for arms. The way you take them down is by shooting the blades enough for them to turn around so you can shoot their weak point.

The best personalities to do this with are either Kevin Smith or Con Smith. Kevin has an unlimited supply of ammo making it easy to get them to turn around, and Con can shoot the blades fast enough for them to expose their weak point if you're in a tight spot.

If things are really dicey you can always use MASK De Smith, however doing so will grant you no blood unless you kill them with a level 2 charge attack.

Giant Smiles

Giant Smiles are HUGE! You don't wanna mess with these. In all honesty the best way to deal with them is to outright avoid them or let them explode. They have a weak point in their eye, but it blinks a lot and is hard to hit. It becomes unreachable once they are in a certain range of you.

Deal with these guys by letting em drop and running to a safe distance, or just sneak past them with Kevin Smith.

There are many, many more variants of Smiles. Not all are listed here, just the ones I feel I could give some pointers on as most of them you encounter are pretty self explanatory. Everybody has their own strategy, of course!
Defending yourself against Heaven Smiles
As you know if a Heaven Smile gets close enough to you, it'll pounce on you and explode which will deal damage. There are a few ways you can stop this from happening.

Counter Attack
The Counter Attack ability can be unlocked with any personality so long as they have Level 2 in every available skill.

To perform a Counter Attack, you must wait until a Smile is close enough. When he pounches you, you'll see a split second white flash or spark of sorts, shown here:
This is your visual cue to press X (or E on keyboard+mouse) to perform a Counter Attack. Doing so will perform an execution animation that will instantly kill a Heaven Smile. Awesome.

Down Attack
The Down Attack ability can be unlocked with any personality so long as they have Level 1 in "Power" and "Speed".
It's used by attacking when a Smile is on the floor crawling towards you after it's lost a leg. Stomp 'em!
Something you can't find here?
Go see Iwazaru in Harman's Room. You can find him chilling at the back. He has all sorts of useful info about the game. Ranging from each personality's abilities, information about various types of Heaven Smiles and past logs you may have accidentally skipped in the level.
In the name of Harman...
This is the end of the guide, everybody! I know it's short but I hope it helps you out. If it did, please give it a thumbs up rating so it may help others. Perhaps even add it to your favourites if you're feeling generous enough ;)

Leave a comment below for feedback or anything you'd like to see added. I'll be sure to check them out.

Now soak all that information in and dine on some donuts. Killing Smiles is tough work. Or maybe it's too easy...

Have fun in killer7!

I would add Mask as a way to kill Giant smiles. I honestly didn’t even know the eye was the week point for Giant smiles until I saw a video about it. On my first play through I just automatically assumed they needed to be killed with mask due to them being massive

Are you sure you got all of the bullets (the quest item, not actual bullets)? Also if I recall correctly, you may or may not need thin blood to use Kaede's ability at the wall. I think you might be missing a bullet somewhere.

hey how do I get past the gatekeeper in Angel? I spammed Y or Q with Kaede Smith but she won't slit herself and open up the wall at all, am I missing an item? I got the fire ring and photo and well got past the control panel obviously, but I'm stuck at the wall as the gatekeeper turns me down

K0K0, should’ve been alive (if you’re young) playing this game on the Gamecube. Now you know what us old timers who played it on the Gamecube felt like.

You have to go to the bag as Garcian and then he will retrieve it. Once retrieved and you're at the TV, you have to mash A (or left click) to bring your dead character back to life.
