[RF] Rainbeau Flambe - Storyteller [1.0]

Description
This mod adds a new storyteller, Rainbeau Flambe.

Rain shares Randy's love of the unpredictable, but tempers that love with a bit of Cassandra's storytelling flair. Still, he'll send big threats nearly as often as small ones. He seems to have a bit of a sadistic streak, and in any event, he has to keep his cat, Sabre, amused. He also likes to have a slightly larger cast of characters to work with than Cassandra does, and so will subtly encourage you to have more colonists.

The mod also slightly increases the base chance of orbital traders arriving, though the actual frequency of their arrival is not altered.

Some player testimonials:

"[Rainbeau is] real good on providing a constant supply of traders and challenges."

"Yep. Three events after one minute. And after that I had some time for my colonist. I like that challenge."

"I have to say I'm really satisfied with this storyteller.... Rain (on some challenge and later on rough) is heavy handed, but fair. The good flows in rapid succession just like challenges. I feel like if you survive the onslaught, he rewards you with a reasonable term of prosperity, and loves big colonies. He basically fits exactly how I like to play."

"Not sure if I just had bad luck.... But it feels like the game now spams bad events on me."

"Just into my second year in my current game using Rainbeau and I can say, 100%, that he is very fun, even on Some Challenge. XD Very fast paced and intent on being very kind or very brutal to my tiny colony. A+ Storyteller!"

"I've taken to calling this storyteller 'WHAT NOW?!'"

"He looks kinda like Shia Labeouf."

-- Rainbeau Flambe (dburgdorf) - the modder, not the storyteller ;)

A Note on Difficulty Levels:

Technically, Rain can be used at any difficulty setting, if only because there's no way to disable any of those settings. But as a matter of practicality, I wouldn't recommend trying to use him with "base builder" difficulty. Rain utilizes big threats as often as small ones, and tries to keep things going at a fair clip, while the "base builder" setting disables most big threats, and is intended to keep the game moving at a more leisurely pace. The inconsistency should be obvious.

Compatibility:

"Rainbeau Flambe - Storyteller" adds a new storyteller, but doesn't really change anything already in the game, so it should be compatible with pretty much any other mod, and you should be able to add it to an existing saved game without trouble. You should also be able to safely remove it from a game in progress, at least so long as Rain's not the currently active storyteller.

License:

If you're a modpack maker and want to include this mod in your pack, or if you're a modder and want to use it as the basis of a derivative mod, please feel free to do so. I ask only that you let me know about it.

Hey RF, don't know if you'll read this, but thanks for making awesome mods in the early versions of RimWorld!

Hey, I updated this to 1.1: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2008156516

The storyteller is pretty much identical, it just needed a few extra lines for the questing system and a syntax change for what I think are the spaceship raids.

If you have any requests/comments, let me know!

So I hate to be *that* guy, but I wanted to ask: are there plans to update this for the new DLC & Version 1.1, assuming this does not work with the new updates?

Rainbeau Flambe is legitimately my favorite story-teller and I personally consider this mod nearly as essential as CE:FT or Deep Storage.

Unplayable at higher difficulties.
You get a really awesome spam of raids that's a lot of fun to survive. On merciless it's the perfect amount of threat. But then you get zero grace period between raid spam. It's only a matter of time before you die, and if you don't die, the absurd amount of bodies and wealth the raiders leave will inflate your colony wealth in a matter of days, until you're attempting to take on 50k wealth raids.
All while you only have 2-3 colonists because the only colonist offers you get come with raids, usually when 2 of 3 colonists can't even walk.

This mod would be perfect if it actually gave you a rest period like described in the description.

i have the additional raids mod and i don't get that many raids, I used to quite frequently get 2 raids at the same time, but recently raids have been separated by a couple of days and after nothing for almost 7 days I just got a raid consisting of 80 people

@11Bullets, Its not a mod conflict. Its just this storyteller. I have had nothing BUT raids constantly. Nothing good happening at all. Just one strike after another. I actually counted 5 in one day so far and have had nothing less than 2 in one day at least for about a month (15 days). Frankly, I love the idea the mod creator stated in the description, but there is no "term of prosperity" reasonable or otherwise. I'm taking this out as, frankly, I feel like it sucks all the joy of the game out. I'll go play a shootem'up if I want constant gunfire. Its a bit unfortunate, because I otherwise love this guy's other mods.

I've been using him for about 150 hours for one colony now and I've not had multiple raids per day. I'm at a point where I'm seeing raids more often though. I think he's pissed at my lack of colonist deaths.

I have the same constant raid issue, but I'm not too mad. I just switch it over to a blank storyteller from another mod when I need a breather.

I have noticed, however, that Rainbeau has shown up in my games as a leader of a pirate faction twice so far, and his sister 'Buttermilk' came to my colony. Made me smile.

Does anyone else have problems with constant (as in multiple per day) raids from this storyteller?

Started a new tribe (tribal start) and the first 3 or 4 days were fine... then started getting non-stop raids. Last night when playing I had 3 raids in one day, then another raid the next day, just opened the save and immediately got a notice of another raid (so 2nd for this game day). They're small, because my tribe is just starting, but 4 of my 5 pawns are pretty badly injured, 1 can't walk so can't help with base defense.

In defense of the storyteller, I do have a LOT of mods, so going to check this constant raid thing with a vanilla storyteller. Just wondering if anyone else is getting this issue.

I had a general question for the author but there's no way to communicate other than on a particular mod, sorry.

This is a really good mod idea but it seems to be abandoned, could you take it over or do something similar?
