Description

While playing with a friend I got annoyed by the sheer amount of ore patches and the little traveltime to get to them. We have a lot of encounter mods active and almost never get attacked. Horizontal mining, defended mining outposts, mining with a wheel based vehicle are not neccessary. This mod is my try to make mining more interesting and harder, because it is one of the key features of this game, but in vanilla just a nobrainer.

tl;dr

- ore patches placed alot further apart
- thicker ore veins
- less ore combinations
- 4 times less ore yield from drills
- 2 times longer refining times
- halved ingot production amounts in refineries
- vanilla planet replacement

Ore Patches

Ore patch distribution has been revamped on all planets. They are now further appart and force you to travel alot more, increasing the chance of more encounters along the way.

Ore veins are alot thicker, making horizontal mining more valuable.

Ore combinations have been reduced. You can find the following ore combinations:

1. Iron Nickel Cobalt
2. Silicon Uranium Magnesium
3. Silver Gold
4. Platinum (on Moons)

On moons the ore patches are bigger than in vanilla.

Refinery Changes

The outcome of refining ores has been halved. 100k iron ore gave you 70k iron ingots in vanilla, now it gives you 35k ingots. Refining time has been doubled.

Drill Changes

Reduced the mining efficiency by 4 for all drills! If you mined 100k iron ore in vanilla you will now get 25k in the same time, so it will take 4 times longer to get 100k iron ore.

Installation / Usage / Information

This effects all vanilla planets. You can hotplug this mod into an existing savegame (but on your own risk 😋). It will instantly change ore patch distribution and all other adjustments will be active. Your GPS coords will be obsolete. 😉 Asteroid ore distribution is not affected.

Feel free to ask for compatibility patches for other mods!

Where to find ores:

So while on a little walk you are not hitting your toe on ores every few meters anymore. How to find the precious metals now?

Here is a list of current starting depths:

Iron ore is found at 10m.
Nickel at 10m.
Silicon at 20m.
Cobalt at 20m.
Silver at 30m.
Magensium at 20m.
Uranium at 30m.
Gold at 30m.
Platinum at 90m (on moons).

Look at the screenshots on top of this page. They will give you an idea on how the patches are layed out.

These are the distribution grids of ores. Each grid repeats to the right and the bottom.

@Into I guess it is compatible because no scripts are needed. The mod modifies the planet files, mainly for servers. So this should work. :-)

Is this mod crossplay compatible?
If I am not mistaken anything, it comes down if client side scripting is required.

Thanks for the info, but im too lazy to edit 6 textures per planet. I think i may just let my players suffer your default map on x2. On the plus side, the deposits will be bigger when found.

@Marty McFly: Sadly no, Scarce Resources also modifies the planets ore texture and distribution so it would override my changes and vice versa.

@Revale08: You need to resize the planets resource image files to x2 to keep the same distance between ore patches. I have links to the how to in the other section in the description.

Really wanna use this mod but on a x2 planet size start. How easy would it be to adjust the ore map distribution. If its already sparse a x2 planet also scales that that, so finding ores would be almost impossible early game.
