However it was felt the project goals led to a compromise on the combat capabilities of the ship.

Project Red-back was then initiated

The result is the Merc-MX3R-MWP-XC or Extended Combat version.

This version increased the survivability further, removing the warp drive and spacing all critical system in armour.
