SAVTec EvilEye Turret Mk4 Demo Vehicle

Description
Welcome to SAVTec
When we do weapons we do bloody cool ones!

All the usual quality from SAVTec
  • 100% mod-free
  • No Pistons or Scripts. Build uses 2 Rotors - very stable.
  • Multi-grid ship - small grid turret on large grid base vehicle.
  • Nice neat control panel - everything named, grouped & hidden where appropriate
  • Pre-configured hotbars
  • Ideal compact turret for large grid ships
  • Practical & fun for new players & seasoned veterans alike!

Introduction to the EvilEye Mk4 Self Propelled Turret
In a complete departure from our usual, more peaceful lines, SAVTec is now branching out into weaponry.
Not just any old weaponry mind you - our weapons are top of the line!

And the EvilEye Mk4 is no exception.
Not only is it a turret weapon, capable of firing multiple rockets in a 360° x 180° arc, it's also a 1-man self-propelled escape pod with its own life support & emergency equipment!

Demo Vehicle
The Demo Vehicle is exactly what it sounds like. Nothing special - just a nice neat way to showcase the turret & demonstrate how it works.
You can use the Demo Vehicle as a template to create "nests" for the turret on your own ships. You could also modify it & use it with the turret as it is.

Capabilities
As a turret, the EvilEye Mk4 is extremely versatile. It'll fit into a 5x5 large grid area (including the large grid "borders" that are great for protecting it) and can put a volley of missiles anywhere inside a half-sphere field of fire.
A ship protected by 4 EvilEyes will (depending on the ships' exact shape) have no blind spots.

As an emergency escape vehicle it has everything you'll need to survive in space until you're rescued. And fear not - the pod / turret itself can be rescued along with you, thanks to the convenient connector on the side.

For those serious battles where you have dedicated gunners on your crew, the EvilEye Mk4 is the perfect solution for you. Your gunners can sit inside the turret where they'll take up less room in your ship & be out of your way have views of 4 LCD screens (which you can use for displaying whatever info you like), as well as access to all weapon & escape mode controls.

What's more, the EvilEye Mk4 features full large-conveyor port integration, even through the Rotors. This means the Turret will join seamlessly to your motherships' conveyor network & draw all the ammo it needs from there.
Since the turret also features a built in Cargo Container, you can also fill it directly if you want to - but why bother!

Semi-automated purge system
When disaster strikes your mothership, we know you don't have much time to do something about it. That's why we've made purging the EvilEye Mk4 almost efforless.
Everything is hotkeyed for you. Just hit the hotkeys in sequence.
And don't worry - if you launch the turret by mistake it can manouver itself back into position if need be.

Controls
All controls are accessible either from the Demo Vehicle cockpit or from the turret cockpit.

For Auto-Purge, press the following hotkeys in sequence:
Hotkey 1: Switch Rotor Lock (Set to lock when purging the turret)
Hotkey 2: Toggle Combat Controls - this toggles everything to do with controlling the weapons - toggle them off when purging.
Hotkey 3: Toggle Emergency Controls - This toggles everything to do with flying the turret as an escape pod. Toggle them ON when purging.
Hotkey 4: Pan Rotor Detatch - This purges the turret from its mounting & auto-launches it in an upward direction away from your mothership.

Auto-Purge does not require any input from the occupant of the turret - if you pressed the hotkeys in the right order, the upward thrusters will fire when you hit Hotkey 3.

Once the turret is purged & safely away from the burning wreckage of your poor old ship, you can use Hotkey 5 to reduce / disengage the purge thruster override.

Otherwise the turret can be flown just like a regular ship. You can even still use the Azimuth (tilt) function of the turret - and of course the weapons if you want to.

Attaching the turret to another hardpoint (rotor base)
The Pan Rotor works just like any Rotor - it can be detatched from its base & reattached at any time.
It's an Advanced Rotor, so you'll need to use it with an Advanced Rotor base (not a regular Rotor).

When attaching the turret to a new Rotor base, make sure the turret is correctly aligned and perfectly still. Turn off Innertial Dampeners, then through the Control Panel of the ship you're attaching to, select the appropriate rotor & hit "Attach".
Easy peasy!

Specification (not including Demo Vehicle)
Escape pod mode:
  • 1x Large Reactor
  • 1x Battery
  • 1x Connector (so the pod can be rescued / towed by a ship)
  • 1x Medium Cargo Container (for emergency supplies - be sure to fill it before there's an emergency!)
  • 1x Emergency Beacon
  • 1x O2/H2 Generator
  • 1x Oxygen Tank
Weapn mode:
  • 3x Reloadable Rocket Launchers
  • Remote control
  • Antenna for remote control
  • That's it - what more does weapon mode need?!

Intended useage
SAVTec in no way endorses or condones the wanton destruction of other peoples sh!t. They spent hours building that sh!t probably and now you're going to blow it up for your own perverse pleasure?! Bloody savages!
<<Ahem!>> That's why we've developed for you this potent weapon - so that you don't blow sh!t up with it!
Don't even think about blowing up that sh!t now...
I know you're thinking about it.
Stop iiiiiiitttt!

Feedback
Comments / questions / suggestions / constructive criticism all very welcome.
I've even been known to do the odd request-build from time to time, so if you have an idea, drop me a line. If I like it I may build it.

Jthuffman1130... Thanks for the interest - and don't worry, I haven't forgotten about them. I'll definitely be doing the rest at some point.
I hit a bit of "designers block" (no pun intended) with a couple of them & rather than try to force the ideas out & end up with something I wasn't happy with (piles perhaps!), I figured it was better to step back & do some other things for a while. The results will be more enjoyable for you guys this way too.

I did get back to working on the Argentavis the other day though & am having some great ideas for the others as well, so hopefully I'll have something new ready for you soon. :steamhappy:

where are the emgc ships
cptsavarus  [author] 28 Sep, 2018 @ 4:07am
Oh, your people will get to meet a ship that uses it! Maybe they might offer "a certain other technology" in exchange... :steamhappy:

As a delegate of the Valdian people I must aquire this technology, so that we may adapt it to suit our needs.

@Jack... Well yeah... I mean you wouldn't want to have a weapon with no weapon mode would you? Hehe!
Sorry, I just didn't know what else to call it when it's being a ship & not a weapon - even though it still is a weapon...

@crit... Thanks very much! This is what I like to hear! Blowing up pirates is a noble cause indeed!
I'm on a bit of a turret-building binge at the moment, so should have many more designs coming soon. Those pirates wont know what's hit um! :steamhappy:

Oh - and you know that thing in Iron Man 2... go to 1:00 here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbf7_Cz-nIk
... I built a turret that does that!
