Yeah I heard they came close to the end. Lots of companies trying to grab a piece of the pie - filing objections for renewal to the patent office no doubt.
I'm glad they didn't go under - that would've been quite the tragedy but it's sad they had to sell their soul to pop culture franchisers in order to stay afloat.
I swear a small piece of my childhood dies every time I see a Lego Star Wars this or Lego Pirates of the Caribbean that!
My ex's boy was mad about the Nintendo games. Had to have every damned one of them... it drove me up the wall! They're all the exact same bloody game, just with different textures!
<<Inhales deeply>> Must remain calm though. Don't think about Nintendo... think about...

Ahhh... that's better! :lunar2019coolpig:

Oh yes. The dark ages of Lego. They almost went out of business during that time. I started making the mega core magnetizer (what they called it here in the us) after the stellar recon Voyager (you can see part of the base in some of my screenshots).
I have two of those sets currently...I went through a phase where I bought a lot. I recently started technical work in some of my models. Very cool things can be done.

That some piece has been in a few other themes, ice planet, unitron, blacktron, spyrius, futuron to name a few. Even in my custom ship the Sanguine Princess!

The MTron, right! I hadn't spotted that one before.
Instant +1 & favourite! I had that model. Had loads from that set... the big red truck with the mechanical steering & huge dome cockpit was my favourite. Never did find another use for the cockpit "brick" though
My poor mother... that thing cost like £140 at the time! Hehe!
I was mostly into Technic. Built some amazing things with that. Kind of glad I got out of it when I did though. Not long after, Lego lost the patent & started putting out all sorts of weird single-purpose blocks and it stopped feeling like Lego. The new stuff seems more like a Mechano / Kinex / Construx hybrid, not the Lego I know & love!!

Yeah, I actually built one and published it, i have a few that are not finished, I have MOST of the 90's lego space sets, plus some of the 70 and 80s. I'm such a nerd I go to conventions and run games using lego!

Me too! I used to have boxes upon boxes of the stuff. Maybe a quarter of a ton, plus a whole box of instruction manuals, all pristine! Had to sell it all about 20 years ago when we moved house & cash was short. I often wish I still had it. Some of those kits were collectors items even back then! All I was interested in was building stuff with it though. Didn't care one iota how collectable it was.

If you want more Lego spaceships for building ideas, I find a good source is DeviantArt. I get many a great idea from there!

Ah, cool, cause I'm a big nerd when it comes to Lego..
cptsavarus  [author] 7 Mar, 2019 @ 3:19pm
@Lee... Yes. Yes it is!
I didn't build the model - just found the image in a web-search. Was cool enough that I decided to build it.

Is that a pic of it in Lego???
