Homing Weaponry (Support Suspended - See Description)

Description
IMPORTANT

Development of this mod has been suspended until further notice. I will not be addressing any bug reports or feature requests. I will resume development once a stable solution is available for the multiplayer sync issues.


Introduction

This mod adds a selection of new weapons that can fire homing projectiles.


Homing Weapon Launchers
  • Homing Rocket Launcher: Small Grid launcher that can quickly fire 6 Homing Rockets.

  • Homing Missile Launcher: This launcher is capable of firing Homing Missiles and Flare Rounds. The small grid variant can fire a single projectile, while the large grid variant can quickly fire upto 6 projectiles.

  • Homing Missile Turret: Large Grid turret that is capable of quickly firing Homing Missiles and Flare Rounds. Slightly lower rate of fire and higher reload time than it's launcher counterpart.

  • Homing Torpedo Launcher: Large Grid launcher that fires a Homing Torpedo Projectile. Has a high reload time.

  • Homing Torpedo Turret: Large Grid turret that fires a Homing Torpedo Projectile. Has a higher reload time than it's launcher counterpart.

Available Projectiles
  • Homing Rockets: These projectiles are fired from the small grid Homing Rocket Launcher. Ammo variants allow for low-to-medium accuracy and low-to-medium damage.

  • Homing Missiles: These projectiles are fired from the small & large grid Homing Missile Launchers and large grid Homing Missile Turret. Ammo variants are high accuracy and a range of low-to-high damage.

  • Homing Torpedos: These projectiles are fired from the large grid Homing Torpedo Launchers and large grid Homing Torpedo Turret. Ammo variants have low-to-high accuracy and all have massive damage (explosive equivalent of a large grid warhead).

  • Flare Rounds: These projectiles can be fired from the small & large grid Homing Missile Launchers and large grid Homing Missile Turret. Flare rounds can be used to cause any active Homing Projectile in the vicinity to switch targeting to the flare instead. There are 2 types of Flare Rounds. Simple Flares will affect all Homing Projectiles, yours included. The Advanced Flares will affect all Homing Projectiles with the exception of those owned by you or your faction.

Weapon Target Designation
  • Launchers: Simply point the front of the launcher at a target grid and fire. Keep in mind that these launchers will target any grid, and that includes friendlies and debris, so make sure your shots are lined up well. You must be within 800m of the target to initiate a lock-on.

  • Turrets: When a turret uses it's AI and locks onto a target and fires, the target is assigned to the fired projectile. If a turret is fired via manual control, the assigned target is based on the projectile line of sight (similar to forward facing launchers). Target must be within 800m of the turret.

External Target Designation

Each of the forward facing launchers has the ability to assign a Camera Block that will be used to designate the target when fired. This allows configurations where a forward facing camera can be used to assign a target for a launcher facing up/down/left/right/backwards from the target.

The camera block has added controls that allow you to set all launchers of a type to use that camera as their target designator. This allows configurations where a forward facing camera can be used to assign a target for a launcher facing up/down/left/right/backwards from the target.

Notice Regarding Multiplayer Compatibility

The reason some of these don't work very well in multiplayer is because Missile projectiles behave very differently in Single Player and Multiplayer.

In single player, you are considered 'the server' to the game, so everything works as expected.

In multiplayer, things are very different. As a non-server client, the data you receive for certain things isn't the same as what's received on the server. Missile projectile entities don't actually have physics on the client, so you cannot manipulate them the same way as you can if you're a server player. I've been trying to find a work-around for this, but have been hitting dead-ends in most of my attempts.

The weird thing is that while the missiles don't visually work on the client, they are still working on the server. So while you you might see them fly off in a straight line somewhere, on the server, they may actually be tracking a target and will even hit/damage too, which results in the client projectile disappearing and the explosion being created at target.

While I'm running out of ideas for fixing this, I still have a couple other things to try (I've basically rewritten the tracking code from scratch trying to get proper multiplayer sync working). If I ever get it fixed, an update will be published to the mod. Until this is resolved, I likely won't be pushing any other updates to this mod.

as far as i know not without using weaponcore.

mwi - homing weaponry ( https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1919062467 ) would be one, but as said it needs weaponcore ( https://steamproxy.net/workshop/filedetails/?id=1918681825 ) which isnt everyones taste.
i for myself prefer the possibilites that wc brings with it over the vanilla system, even if that means that not everythign can be used cause mixing up different weaponframeworks only causes incompatibilities and heavier probs se cant handle multiple weaponframeworks in use at the same time properly.

What a wasting of time figure out how these workking and find out these are only normal rocket launchers with out homing ability. Even missile turrets if i make some mistake..

As far as I'm aware, this is the only mod that has homing missiles anymore.
(At least working to any degree at all.)
