Viper Wipe (COOP 2-8)

Description
A CSAT Viper Team attempts to bring the Apex Protocol to a closure by assaulting NATO's last base of operation on Tanoa in a daring raid.


Scenario
Tanoa August 2035. Unlike what you experienced in ArmA's own Apex Protocol campaign, CTRG has failed to secure the Eastwind device. As a result, further seismic activity, Syndikat raids and covert Viper operations have brought the regional stability to a total collapse. Desperately clinging on to their last foothold on Ravi-ta Island, NATO forces try to delay the inevitable. Now, attempting to bring the Apex Protocol to a closure, Viper operatives stage a daring assault on the island.

Features
- A Tanoa scenario focused on infantry combat for up to 8 players (recommended are at least 4, though we managed to beat the mission with just 2)
- Assault a pacific island turned NATO base in a spec-ops assault with limited support and assets
- Take a nap, skip some time. Fight in the bright daylight, early morning fog or darkness of the night
- Plan your assault carefully - monitor NATO positions via UAV
- Choose how to insert, choose where to insert. Get pinned down on the beaches or take NATO by surprise
- Crack dug-in NATO troops with your limited mortar support
- Vaporize high-priority targets with laser-guided AG missiles from your KH-3A Fenghuang, but be wary of the enemy AA
- Capture NATO gear, positions and vehicles to gain an advantage against your numerical superior foe
- Fight off NATO counter-attacks or evade them by shifting your assault to a different position on the island
- Struggle for survival until you secure a beachhead on the island
- Battle against time when the NATO Commander decides to flee the island
- Be amazed when the ArmA AI completely disregards my scripting, acting in ways we would never have imagined

Outlook
As soon as I find time to familiarize myself with the necessary tools, I would like to add an intro and outro to this mission. Except for that, I will consider this mission now as finished, as long as there appear no new bugs or issues with performance or balancing (or unless I have another cool idea to incorporate into the mission).
For the futue I also want to create new scenarios, the first of which will likely also be based on Tanoa and loosely connected to this one, though they will deal with the conflict from other perspectives (Gendarmerie, Syndikat, CTRG).

Version 1.1 is out!

Check the changelog for what is new or has been improved.

The announced third insertion method had unfortunately to be removed. The scripts to keep the NATO troops from recognizing you as an enemy while in flight proofed rather unreliable, especially in multiplayer. Also this way of insertion had next to no merits compared to the other ones, and stealing the helicopter turned out not to fit into the flow of the mission anyway.

Version 1.1 is in work/being tested at the moment, expect a release during this week.

New features include:
- Fixing the loading screen picture
- Adding structures and detail to the various NATO installations on the island
- A new method of insertion (stealing a NATO helicopter for an undercover insertion)
- A third drone for spotting
- A CAS drone for additional support (beware of AA)
- More mortar munitions
- Last improvements on the escape script
