Upgradable Follower Outfits

Description
Ever tried giving Lydia an upgraded version of the steel armor she was wearing only to find that she never actually wears it? This mod fixes that. Now you can give Lydia a fully upgraded set of steel armor that she will actually wear, retaining her default style and improving her AC. Works with any Housecarl and with Aela.

This mod changes the outfit used by Housecarls and by Aela. I created duplicated versions of the steel armor and the draugr armor used by these outfits that has the same stats as the normal armor but a different item ID. This serves as a work around for the limitation where followers will never equip any item you give them even if it has enchantments or smithing upgrades if its item ID matches one of the outfit items.

This mod is compatible with anything that doesn't modify the outfit records. This means it will work with other follower mods.

If an NPC using one of the modified outfits has already been met, you will need to remove the old outfit items from their inventory before this mod will take effect. The easiest way to do this is to use the console commands "removeallitems" folllowed by "resetinventory". Make sure to grab anything that the NPC is holding that you want to keep before using these commands. You can give them the upgraded armor afterwords and they will put it on.

I forgot i had this in my list of helpful mods.I was using Amazing Follower Tweaks an it was getting annoying.Just after combat my followers would completely heal.I reported this issue as a Cheat rather than a fix.The creator says it is working as intended.I do not remember any follower i have ever had complete healing just after killing one mob.So i just uninstalled a cheat. Thanks for this.I just need this an since the follower level with you has been fixed in patch 1.6 I should be able to play an unhacked or Cheat game for once.Thank you again.

@Mojo, there is no scripting involved. I have no idea why Lydia would ever wear some robes. Followers should just be choosing gear based on which ever gear provides the highest AC. Lydia's base outfit always provides more AC than a robe (which always give 0). So something else must have been happening in your game for Lydia to be wearing a robe.

Fixing other followers to allow you to upgrade their default outfit gear is easy as long as they aren't the robe wearing kind. Off the top of my head I can think of Mjoll and some Orc followers as being able to benefit from the treatment I gave to Aela and the Housecarls. I only ever use Aela or Lydia in my games so those are the two I focused on.

Any chance this will expand to all follower's or would it be too much scripting to make the character choose to wear the armor that is best for their talents? I know it bothers the hell out of me when I catch Lydia wearing my robes.

If you want to replace mage clothes - console force the pick pocket perk "perfect touch" (I think its addperk 00058205) - steal your followers current robe, then hand them the better robe.

CAN I STILL HAVE LYDIAS HUNTING BOW WITH INFIN ARROWS

@2faced, Hmm I'm not sure why they wouldn't wear an upgraded robe. I guess they only consider AC when choosing what to wear, and since all mage robes have 0 AC, they don't consider the arch mage robes to be any better than their outfit robes. I tried a test by assigning an AC value to the arch mage robes in the creation kit but the game considers the armor value to be 0 regardless (because mage robes do not have an armor type which means it cannot have an armor value) so J'zargo still wouldn't wear them. I had to make them light armor so that they had a non zero armor value before he would wear it. I don't want to make that change. So, sorry but I couldn't figure out how to make him wear better robes.

Will you fix more followers?
Currently, having a problem with J'zargo, he loves those aprentice robes of his soo much, that he totally refuses to wear archmages' robes :D

@Hack Fox, that behavior is not what this mod is for. The behavior you see where they appear to switch back to their default outfit for no reason can be fixed by just trading any item with them. I'm not sure why that bug happens and this mod is unlikely to have fixed it.

Does this work with non-vanilla armor/weapons as well? for example, when I dismiss lydia after giving her a custom mod armor, will she still revert to her "default" armor?
