Better Mining and Production

Description
Expand your prison with some brand new production chains including a mine, a smeltery and much more!
This mod is in current development, so there is going to be new content on a daily basis!

Gameplay
As with most things in PA you first have to research: In this case Mining & Melting. This research requires you to have Prison Labour researched first (so do that). When your research is completed you can build a Mining and a Melting area. In order to have prisoners working there they need to pass a reform program, either Mining or Melting Instruction (depending on where they are going to work). When training is completed and you assigned prison labour to the areas your prisoners will start working depending on your regime.

You might notice that melting wont start immediately after a worker loaded the furnace, this is due to the fact that you need five ores in order to melt one metal block in the furnace. Burning fife coal ores will result in one industrial diamond.

Features
All the new additions provided by this mod!

Reform Programs
  • Mining Instruction.
    About half as difficult as the foundation education program
  • Melting Instruction.

  • Goldsmithery Instructions
    20% less difficult than carpentry + requires Metal Work Instruction to be completed.

Objects
Mine
Costs 1.000$ to build. Has a 40% chance to find nothing. Has a 10% chance to find Gold or Silver ores. Has a 40% chance to find coal. Can be dumped and rebuilt on the same spot to yield a different result. (Will change in the future). Working on a mine will significantly increase prisoners sleep need. (Sleepy prisoners wont dig tunnels at night tho)
Furnace
Costs 2.000$ to build. Has the following fail chances: 20% for coal, 30% for silver, 40% for gold. In case of failure it will output garbage instead of the produced material.
Metal Work Workbench
Costs 500$ to build. In case of failure it will output garbage.
Gold Smith Workbench
Costs 500$ to build. In case of failure it will output garbage.

Sellables
  • Mined Coal 100$
  • Mined Iron 100$
  • Mined Silver 150$

  • Ring 3.500$

How production works

  • 5 Mined Iron makes 1 Iron Block (Fail Chance: 20%)
  • 5 Mined Silver makes 1 Silver Block (Fail Chance: 30%)
  • 5 Mined Gold makes 1 Gold Block (Fail Chance: 40%)
  • 2 Gold Blocks makes 1 Golden Necklace (Fail Chance: 50%)
  • 2 Gold Blocks makes 1 Ring (Fail Chance: 50%)
  • 1 Iron Block makes 4 Sheet Metal
  • 1 Industry Diamond makes 1 Brilliant (Fail Chance: 50%)

Super secret tip:
If you build an exports room your workers will automatically transport the melted blocks to the exports area for later sale. Otherwise you have to sell all melted blocks manually

I try to teach the prisoners, but it always says that there is no place or something is missing, and no prerequisite is necessary, how to make it work?

Subbing to try this now - just curious though: is there a reason you call it melting and not smelting? The process of melting raw metals to remove impurities and pouring it into blocks is smelting, which is done at a furnace, and the room/building this is done in would be called a metal processing plant or a smelter facility or a foundry. Not really a big deal I suppose, just stuck out to me.

time for punishment camps, were loading in max sec prisoners for the sole reason of working! and if they don't comply... well guess no one will be seeing them again =)

So basically you made a mod where i get prisoners to mine things for profit? And it's socially acceptable? Thanks!

@Twisted_Code:
No, your absolutely right. Just selling the blocks would work as well. In the long run refactoring blocks into necklaces is not worth it. However, this is a work in progress and needs tweaking. In the next release I'll increase the sell price of those necklaces so that in the long run you will come out on top.

@RibzCage:
Prisoners wont attend training if they are other training options open to them or they are not bored enough. Cut free-time to nearly zero, and lock em up all day and attendance during work regime in training will increase! Training will only happen during work regime!!

@Jirout.VojtaCZ:
Thanks for the tipp, my mod is inspired by the one you linked.
I'll definitively will get some new furnace artwork :)

@Dikhed7410:
No. You probably have to many programs active and or too much free time. Note: Training will only happen during work regime.
Red orb 8 Oct, 2018 @ 11:37pm
Can you change the training from voluntary to mandatory because otherwise the prisoners don't attend
