Description
Thankyou for purchasing a SAVTec W.H.O.R.E!
You knew it'd happen sooner or later...

All the usual quality from SAVTec
  • 100% mod-free
  • Build uses 2 Rotors and lots of Pistons but they're extremely stable.
  • Build uses 4 timers for automation - no programmable blocks or scripts required.
  • Nice neat control panel - everything named & grouped
  • Ideal first large-grid mining vehicle on planets
  • Advanced knowledge of game mechanics is needed to build this truck from scratch in Survival mode

Survival Building tutorials
To help you learn how to build this vehicle in survival mode, I'm preparing a 3-part series of tutorial worlds.

Part 1 can be found here...
Sir Pistonalots' Piston Palace: Piston Tricks Tutorial

Parts 2 & 3 are on their way

Getting to know your W.H.O.R.E's
As you would expect, W.H.O.R.E stands for Wheeled Heavy Ore Removal Equipment (what else did you think it could possibly stand for?!)... a big mining truck in other words.

Now I don't normally do large-grid wheeled vehicles. It's something I've deliberately avoided for a long time, as I don't personally find them a very realistic concept... however... trips to & from mining sites in small trucks & atmo craft soon become really tedious, once your projects start getting bigger.
A large-scale solution was needed... and this is it.

Unlike T.A.R.T's and S.L.U.T.S, W.H.O.R.E.S are not cheap (to build). They are in fact really expensive. Once you have a W.H.O.R.E however, she'll pay for herself extremely quickly and will serve you again and again!

W.H.O.R.E's have lots of complex moving parts but don't worry, they're all nice & firm and none of them will wobble about or fall off as long as you treat them with respect...

To build your own W.H.O.R.E in survival mode isn't easy but it IS completely possible. To do it you'll need to learn a couple of advanced techniques using merge blocks. If you want to build the W.H.O.R.E in your survival game & don't yet know how these merge block tricks work, drop a comment & I'll walk you through the process.

Features
Apart from having lots of pistons & rotors, W.H.O.R.E's are relatively simple in what they do. They have...
  • 2x Large Cargo Container
  • 2x Small Reactor
  • 2x Backup Battery
  • 2x Solar Panel
  • 1x Ore detector
  • 2x Antenna
  • 1x Remote Control
  • 1x Connector on the undercarriage
  • 1x Connector on the end of the boom (faces forward when driving)
  • Forward & reverse Cameras
  • External air intake and internal air vent so you don't suffocate with the doors shut.

Putting your W.H.O.R.E to work
All the main controls are hotkeyed for you. There are 11 controls on 2 hotbar pages.

Hotbar page 1 controls:
1) Toggle Handbrake on / off
2) Lower Suspension
3) Raise Suspension
4) Extend / Retract Stabiliser Arm
5) Lower / Raise Stabiliser Leg
6) Switch lock - Stabiliser Foot
7) Switch lock - Boom Locking Clamp
8) Raise / Lower drilling boom

Hotbar page 2 controls:
1) Toggle Drills on / off
2) Extend / Retract Drilling Pistons

Operation is made as simple as possible.
To set up the truck for drilling, press the following hotkeys in sequence...
1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 on page 1, then keys 1, 2 on page 2.

To pack up the truck once drilling is finished, press the hotkeys in the reverse sequence...
2, 1 on page 2, then 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 1 on page 1.

Hotkeys 2 and 3 activate timers that adjust the suspension. The movement is a little bouncy but it keeps the truck from being damaged. When setting up the truck for drilling you'll need to LOWER the suspension with hotkey 2. To pack it up again afterward you'll use hotkey 3 to RAISE the suspension.
This is just a handy little feature to give you 1-block extra drilling depth.

WARNING:
If you hammer on the hotkeys like a 4 year old neanderthal with ADHD, the thing will probably explode and you'll only have yourself to blame.
You MUST give each operation time to complete before pressing the next hotkey in the sequence.

Note on timers:
Annoyingly, the smallest timer increment that can be set is 1.0 seconds. I would've liked to reduce it to 0.5 but that's not possible. When you use hotkeys 2 or 3 to start a timer, give it a few seconds to work, as the 1.0 second delay can sometimes end up being 3 or 4 seconds.

Sometimes the timers act up a bit & fail to work. If they haven't after 10 seconds you may need to reset them. To do this, simply go into the control panel, find & highlight the following 4 timer blocks and hit "STOP"...
-Suspension Lower 1
-Suspension Lower 2
-Suspension Raise 1
-Suspension Raise 2
I will create an automated reset soon.

Getting inside your W.H.O.R.E
To enter a W.H.O.R.E is easy. Just get her to lower her undercarriage to the ground, position yourself near the entry-way and leap in.
If the entry-way to your W.H.O.R.E is too high to reach & you can't get in, you can control her remotely & get her to drop lower... or you could try jumping off something... a block... a box... a yellow pages... a wardrobe.

Note on drilling
You'll notice your W.H.O.R.E takes quite a long time to ream her hole out to its full depth. This is normal - it's a very deep hole after all!
The Drilling Pistons are set to extend / retract at a velocity of 0.02m/s. Any faster and you risk damaging the drilling head and / or breaking the pistons. Although the piston configuration is very strong, it's not indestructable, so you need to take care of it.

If you want to speed up the process of retracting the drills, that's fine, you can do that without any problems. I recommend a speed of -0.5m/s for this - again, too fast and you risk damaging things... and don't forget to set it back to -0.02 before you start drilling another hole!

Remember - negative velocities retract pistons, positive velocities extend them!

Note on driving / terrain
The W.H.O.R.E has a lot of ground clearance and is extremely manouverable for her size - but that doesn't mean she's a go-anywhere kind of girl. Due to the overhang or "swing" on her front & rear ends, she's best kept on as flat & level a surface as possible.
She CAN do hills but watch those entry & exit angles or you'll damage the cockpit / tear off the stabilisers.
In short, she's not a dune buggy. Ride your W.H.O.R.E too hard & you'll break her!

Notes on Klang
He polishes my shoes...

Suggested mod - Ladders (not required)
If you like to play using mods, why not add a retractable ladder, so you can climb up on top of your W.H.O.R.E without using the Jetpack? Mod suggested by Krahazik...

Feedback
Comments / questions / suggestions / constructive criticism all very welcome.
I've even been known to do the odd request-build from time to time, so if you have an idea, drop me a line. If I like it I may build it.

@C_D_W..... There's nothing to update - sadly that's just how projectors work. Ever since Alpha 1.0 they can only project the main grid, not any attached subgrids.
It's still possible to build this in Survival mode though.
The way to do it is to build each of the sub-grids separately, then attach them together manually using the piston & rotor attach tricks.
You'll first need to paste the whole truck into a Creative Mode world, then disassemble it and take blueprints of each of the sections.
See the description for a link to a piston trick tutorial I made that can help. Also check through the comments, as I've been asked this question many times - there are answers in there.
If you need more info after that just drop me another comment & I'll explain in more detail.

hey,
is there any Update, because the Projektor just Projekts the Base of the Drill

How deep does she go when drilling? I'm using a mod that's spawns ores between 50 to 1200m deep so I'm wondering what my options are for large scale mining

Set up my base to utilize the bottom connector, only to find that there is a rather large bush growing through the armor plates. The innuendo is too good.

All jokes aside, loving this W.H.O.R.E. in my current survival game. I can't wait to see what the next iteration looks like!

I'll certainly consider doing a re-model. This has been a popular truck, so it'd be nice to give it a new lease of life at some point & bring it up to spec with the game. I'll see what I can do eh. Probably wont be for a while though, as I have a backlog of other stuff to get published first.

@cptsavarus Considering how much more stable pistons and rotors are maybe this can get a rework too. :)
Im gonna try build a functional one in survival for now, but please build a pretty one! this rig is extremely nice in design and function

@Assistant Supervisor... sorry but right now there's no small-grid version. Only what you see on my workshop. When I built this, the same in small-grid was impossibly unstable. Now things are much more stable with small grids I might try again. No promises though.

@Opu... thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoy them. They're a lot of fun to build.
Regards your question, I honestly can't remember. It's been a while now since I made this. From what I do remember, the "lower" funtion had to be slowed down to avoid the truck slamming into the ground too fast & damaging itself. I also remember that a game update at some point caused the timers to not work correctly & that I kind of gave up trying to fix them.

Do you happen to have a Small ship version of this?
Not the same scale, obviously, but a mini one?
This mining rig would be perfect if it was a small ship for something i want to do.
