Description
Adds the Collector Swarm as a Civilization, led by the Collector General.

The mysterious Collector General is a unique Collector who commands and guides the rest of the Collectors with unparalleled efficiency. The General also has a unique ability, he can posses any normal Collector at any time, making them significantly more powerful and unlocking their biotic potential, making them a dangerous foe on the battlefield.

Trait: (Ascension) Gain +3% Science and Gold, +2% Production and -1% Culture from captured cities globally.

UB: Processing Vat. Replaces Opera House. Increases land unit production 15% and grants an extra 15 experience for land units built in city. Increases science +1 and gold +2 for every nearby worked strategic resource.

UU: Cruiser. Replaces Modern Armour. An anti-air, anti-city, hovering unit. 25% of destroyed enemies combat strength is gained as science. Cannot capture cities, does reduced damage to land units. Requires 1 Aluminum.

UU: Captain. Replaces great general. +15% nearby friendly land unit combat strength. -15% nearby enemy land unit combat strength.

This is the tenth of our planned Mass Effect civs, the Collectors. Your enemies are weak, but as they fall you will collect what you need and grow in strength. Tear them apart, swarm their position, and show them that they mearly prolong the inevitable. Their cities will become your laboratories, and their weakness will become your strength.

So the Collectors were incredibly fun to create and were probably the race I was most looking forward to creating. The main thing we wanted to concentrate on for them was, well, collecting. This led to their unique trait which means they grow in power as they capture cities, similar to what happened when they were abducting colonies. Technically they're the most advanced race in the galaxy (well, second most) which is why it grants increased science and production, but they have very little culture, which is why it reduces culture. The gold bonus was included to help maintain the large armies they'll need to capture cities, as technically money is not something the Collectors need to worry about. The way this trait is balanced is the fact they'll need to start wars, and make enemies, to grow. You also don't gain much from capturing smaller civilisations, meaning you'll have to weigh up on whether or not you want to gain enemies and a little bonus from capturing a smaller civ, or wait to take on a larger civ and gain more.

The Captain doesn't have any combat abilities himself, but the influence and power he generates on the battlefield makes him a high priority target, as his mere presence can turn the tide of battle. The Cruiser is one of the best units at weakening cities, and commands almost complete air dominance, but is late game and lackluster against land units. The Processing Vat replaces the Opera House as we wanted the Collectors to have less culture and not rely on just capturing all the time. And finally, writing the dialogue for the Collector General was great fun, he's such a jerk and just doesn't care.

As a final note I would like to thank a-iccara, from Deviantart again, for her incredible help on creating another custom made symbol for us to use. The help was invaluable.

This is a dual project and we plan on creating and releasing all these civs (in no particular order) in the near future, and hopefully you'll enjoy them. :)

Troubleshooting

  • This mod requires Gods and Kings.
  • If you have Gods and Kings and don't know how to download or activate this mod, please follow this step-by-step guide by clicking here[forums.civfanatics.com].
  • If some, but not all, of the civs downloaded, then try exiting the game and unsubscribing and resubscribing through Steam Workshop, outside of the game. Steam just acts weird sometimes.
  • If you have a Mac then Steam Workshop wont work for you. Please click here[forums.civfanatics.com] and follow the instructions.
  • If the step-by-step guide or the troubleshooting still never fixed your problem, it's a common cache issue, which can be fixed by these steps:

    1) Unsubscribe from the mod. Exit Steam and Civ 5 completely
    2) Empty your mod folder (create backups) located at: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\My documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS
    3) Delete the 'Civ5ModsDatabase.db' file located at: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\My documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache
    4) Restart steam, subscribe, restart Civ 5.

I got a question about the trait:
If i raze the city I have captured, does the rest of the empire still get the bonus for capturing the city?

if have both brave new world and gods n kings u may need both versions of civs. me already had brave new world civs version thou on last computer(win 7) they appeared. however on my new computer win 10. they do not. so i may haffta subscribe to both G&K and brave newworld versios of civs inorder to get em to appear. enable & reenable, subsribe and resubscribe offten don't fix. and win 10 n microsoft edge don't allow plugins for third party security reasons. glicth or bug is hard to say.

I was wondering why it wouldn't appear. Is it possible for you to make it without the need of gods&kings?

I don't need to say anything, again.

@Shadoon - If I recall there was an old glitch like that with the Quarians and them but it was fixed months ago. I'll look into it again to double check.

As for your comments on strength, the Cruiser has a 33% penalty to all land units and can't capture cities, meaning it can't do much without significant support. And I don't really see how it can be very weak and OP.
Shadoon 11 Feb, 2014 @ 1:03pm
But I really like the cruiser. But maybe a bit OP. The ship promotion negates the penalty. So there is really nothing you can stop it with...
Shadoon 11 Feb, 2014 @ 1:02pm
sometimes when you take a cruiser from land to see, it will transform to a ship and not transform back. so when you go back on land it's a floating ship. I wouldn't mind that much but it is also very weak...

The Terminus Systems have been released.

I am guessing you had to make a personality for the collector general, since he is possesed until death in mass effect.
