Description
Area Denial Unit is a cheap little frigate that can be used to dominate space. It carries 3 Rhino V2 battledrones that you can quickly deploy to a contested area. The drones are cheap and durable, and they are fully autonomous. You just fire and forget about them.

Once deployed, each drone will acquire an elliptical orbit around the point of its release. It will circle at 600-1100 meters, constantly changing direction and speed. It will enter "radio silence" and disappear in order to make itself harder to spot. Once in a while it will turn the antenna on so you can remotely press the RESET button if you want to refuel or re-deploy them. But they are so cheap I suggest you simply make another one. (All this was done only with timer blocks, I am proud about that :D )

Use the Area Denial Unit to secure your base, valuable scavenging locations or ore-rich asteroids. Or deploy these little buggers on PVP servers to spice things up, I don't care.

I guess you can also use these drones for target practice. They are small, tough and evasive. They are not very precise though but they should be able to hit now and then. Three of them guarding the same location can be a big nuisance.

------
Area Denial Unit pilot manual:

Press 1, 2 and 3 to deploy drones. I suggest you release them in that order.

You should make a full stop when you are releasing them if you want a solid orbit.

I suggest you release one, then move or rotate a bit before releasing the next one in order to spread their coverage.

This is a fully functional, tested spaceship. I hope some of the engineering solutions will inspire your future builds.

I’ve written a science fiction novel titled: "Janitors of the Late Space Age" inspired by Space Engineers. If you are looking for some summer reading - you can get it from Amazon as an electronic book or paperback. Thank you!

just imagine being blockaided by hundreds of these in orbit, like a dyson sphere but at your planet

The only real problem with this is that once you deploy the rhinos, the frigate becomes rather useless. You cannot attach new rhinos with the same deployment ability unless you manually reconfigure the timer blocks.

Furthermore, it would be a lot easier to prepare another deployment if you had a projector block to project the ship's original design including the rhinos.

Hm, no decay?

That is very interesting. The chances of that happening are relativly skim...

so, impresive!

They pick up speed, and then they make a slight turn every few seconds... so they kinda "drift" through space. By repeating this motion constantly - they end up going in a circle. I've had one of these released in my creative workshop in space for... months now. It still follows the same path without error.

Hwo do the drones work?

@Sarven - Ah, you are right. This V2 features a bit more armor and minor improvements. I might put it out separately.

As in this is Verion 2 but there's still a version 1

@Sarven - Out of date? The Rhino drones blueprint should be working fine - right?

Will you release the Rhino Drones seperatly as an upgrade of the out of date blueprint?

@Trison - It's a design flaw. In order to make it so compact (and the fact that you can't stuff missles through small size cargo access point) I suggest you load the ammo in cargo before sealing it with missile turret.
