Berlin’s Federal Ribbon · Paul-Löbe-Haus · Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus

Description
First of all, thank you AmiPolizeiFunk for all your help and patience on this one year journey.

Warning

This asset is not easy to place. Please follow the instructions and remember to use CTRL-A to plop it.

Berlin’s government buildings form a bridge over the river Spree connecting East and West. Known as the Band des Bundes – the “Federal Ribbon” – they are a fascinating mixture of modern architecture and German history.

The government buildings in the heart of Berlin form a ribbon across the river Spree, symbolically connecting East and West. The parliamentary offices and the chancellery were not built until the wall came down and Berlin was chosen as the country’s seat of government. The buildings are exciting examples of contemporary architecture that no-one sightseeing in Berlin can afford to miss.

The collection of assets consists of

- Paul-Löbe-Haus (PLH),
- Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus (MELH),
- Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Steg and Obere Brücke, the bridge which connects both buildings.

Paul-Löbe-Haus

The Paul-Löbe-Haus is named after the former President of the Reichstag who later became the oldest MP in the first German Bundestag. It houses MPs’ offices, meeting rooms and the main visitors’ office. Especially striking is the glass facade on the west side. The building is connected to the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus by a bridge over the Spree for those MPs who aren’t afraid of heights, and a tunnel under it for those who are.

Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus

Directly on the other side of the Spree from the Paul-Löbe-Haus is the German parliament’s centre for academic services. Opened in December 2003, it is named after the social reformer and women’s rights activist Marie Elisabeth Lüders. It houses the parliamentary library, which is one of the biggest in the world. Along the former route of the Berlin Wall there is publicly accessible memorial containing original segments of the wall as a reminder of the divided Germany.

Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus is currently undergoing an extension that includes a tower on the eastern end of the building. It should have been completed by 2015, but is still under construction. As there are no current public photos available for some parts of the extension, especially the roof, I had to improvise in some cases, hoping that I am at least very close to the final look.

General

This is my second release after Berlin Hauptbahnhof which is accidentally very near to the buildings I created. It took me more than ten month to do it and more than 250 hours in total.

I had to overcome a lot of game obstacles during the creation process as the buildings are situated directly on a river and have different numbers of floors on their West and East side. Additionally, I believe that all three parts combined would be the largest asset on the workshop with a massive footprint of 450 m x 100 m.

Game basics

- 1:1 size of the real buildings
- Lot size is ~ 57x13 units (450 m x 100 m)
- Found under Monuments > Category 5
- 13 + 9 subbuildings + 2 main buildings + 1 prop, road connections needed
- Costs $250,000 to build for each building
- Upkeep is $2,500 per week

Instructions

Since the complex consists of three parts (two buildings and the prop bridge in between), I figured out soon that plopping it could be difficult.

1. make sure all required mods are turned on
2. in Prop Snapping set both options on (Don't update prop Y ... and Allow Prop to submerge)
3. press CTRL-A to activate anarchy mode
4. import the Move It! file[drive.google.com] by placing it into the MoveItExports folder
5. deactivate Follow Terrain
6. place the building next to a river
7. create a quay that runs in front of the base footprints of each building

If you search for the prop bridge, use Find it! and search for Spree bridge

Technical background knowledge

Both buildings have m_placementMode set to OnWater for the main and all of their sub buildings. That means, that you won't be able to place it on ground unless you use Fine Road Anarchy to plop it. The reason is that all modes except OnWater block water, which would result in crazy water movements upon loading a savegame.

This project is awesome - Your work is highly appreciated! Is there going to be an additional project on the architecturally equally valuable Federal Chancellery? It would be highly demanded!

thanks for the feedback - i completely understand the time what you have spend to build this asset -- if you find a time eventually this year, it would be a dream, to get in a smaller size - i think also other users would be very happy about it - the building is a little must have for a Berlin city ;)

@MaT: It's basically the texture size turning this into a beast. I would have to scale down all textures, but re-importing the whole building in the asset editor takes years. I spent weeks on this for the first release. I am sorry, but currently this is just not possible due to my schedule, I'll see if I can do that some time this year.

i already use this loading screen mod - but i have since some weeks problems to get the game loaded, it hang up at around 98% - i have seen in the forums, that this problem happens to a lot of other users too, since the last update - no fresh install, nothing helps
i think, the main game is too big now and makes problems - there is not really an answer from developer

the only thing what helps for me, is to use less items & smaller ones - i love your building but it is to big :-(

Maybe you can release a smaller one too with less texture, tris, details - would be a dream :-)
at the moment i have a big empty place in my city ..

@MaT: Just one hint: Make sure to use Loading Screen mod to reduce memory usage.
