Merrick's Venice

Description
Adds Venice, led by Enrico Dandolo. He ruled Venice for decades later in his life, and led it through the Fourth Crusade and the Sacking of Constantinople.
Venice is a diplomatic naval power, increasing their influence and making their Capital larger and more powerful through expansion.

Venice
Stato da Mar
  • The Capital can build one more specialty District than the Population limit would normally allow for each other city that has 3 of more specialty Districts.
  • +1 Influence Point and +1 Diplomatic Favor per turn for each city other than the Capital that has 3 of more specialty Districts.
  • Canals are unlocked at Engineering instead of Steam Power*
*this change does not appear on the tech tree

Galeazza (Frigate)
Unique Venetian Naval Siege unit unlocked with Military Engineering.
  • Deals Bombard Damage. Lower base Movement (3 vs. 4)
  • Receives +5 Strength and +1 Movement in shallow waters.
  • Follows the Siege Promotion tree, but otherwise still classed as Naval Ranged. Retains Siege Promotions on upgrade.

Fondaco (Standalone)
Venetian unique district that does not replace anything. Unlocks at Guilds.
  • Must be built on a Coast or Lake tile adjacent to land.
  • +1 Trade Route if this city has a Bank or Shipyard.
  • Major bonus (+2 Gold) from each adjacent City Center, Commercial Hub, Industrial Zone, and Canal. Minor bonus (+0.5 Gold) from each adjacent District tile.
  • Bonus Production equal to the adjacency bonus of this district when an established Governor is present in the city.
  • +1 Great Merchant and +1 Great Admiral points per turn.

Enrico Dandolo
Horses of Saint Mark
  • Capturing a City grants Gold and Culture per Great Work of Art and Relic present in the city.
  • Banks have a slot for a Great Work of Art and Temples have an additional slot for a Relic.
  • Naval Units receive a +5 Combat Strength bonus against district defenses.

Fourth Crusade
  • Favors warmongers who share his religion. Dislikes civilizations of different religions who have high culture

Venice updated and reworked.

The flavor is good but the abilities are very underpowered. I have now done 3 play-throughs and can confirm that they have nothing to help with science, culture, religion or diplomacy, and still lag behind other domination civs at that

It feels weird playing with this mod and the Venice city-state enabled. I thought it would at least rename the city-state.

How do I start a single player game as venice, it doesn't appear in the dropdown

I'd be interested in seeing an alternate leader or two for this civ.

It's a pity that Galeazza looks the same as Galeass in Steel and Thunder mod, but still it is really great mod!

Hey Merrick, any plans to animate Dandolo maybe using existing Civ 5 art?
maur1an 24 Jul, 2022 @ 3:26pm
@wonderdoc It is intentional, otherwise it would be too powerful

Currently playing this one, great fun so far. I noticed though that the Fondaco doesnt keep the adjacency towards Industrial Zones that the normal Aquaduct does. Is this intentional? If so maybe it should be mentioned in the Districts description

it will not appear in the drop down list when starting a new game
