Introduction
This guide will give you instructions on how to download and use mods from the Skyrim Steam Workshop.

Navigating the Workshop
The Skyrim workshop lists mods which have received the most visitors and ratings from the community within the week.

Near the top you can search for a specific mod using the search bar.

The sidebar filters allow you filter mods by creatures, UI, graphics and more.

Along the top you can choose to filter mods by their popularity and you can choose to view the most recent submissions.

Some mods will be listed as part of a collection. Collections typically contain related mods. To browse the workshop collections select "Browse" and then choose "Collections".
Downloading Mods
To download a mod you will need to subscribe to it. You can subscribe to a mod to it by selecting its thumbnail on the workshop. Before subscribing to the mod you've selected it's a good idea to read the mods description and tags. It's common for workshop authors to give specific details regarding their submission in these areas.

After you've chosen a mod click on the green "Subscribe" button located on its workshop page.

You'll receive a confirmation box letting you know the subscription has been successful. Subscribing to mods on the Steam Workshop will ensure that it remains up to date. Any author released updates will automatically be downloaded the next time you start Skyrim. If you're currently playing Skyrim you'll need to restart the game before you'll be able to use any newly subscribed workshop mods.

If you'd like to delete and unsubscribe from a workshop mod you can do so by visiting your subscriptions list. Locate the asset you'd like to unsubscribe from and select the "Unsubscribe" button.
Playing with Mods
NOTE: Before you begin playing with any sort of game modification it's strongly recommended that you save a backup of your game. You can do this through the Skyrim menu by clicking "Escape" and then "Save" within the game. If the modification causes issues later down the line and you need to restore to a point before you installed it, you'll be able to do so.

If you'd like to see an entire list of mods that you're subscribed to you can click on "Data Files" from the launcher. This list will also display mods which have been downloaded outside of the Steam Workshop. Keep in mind that "Dawnguard.esm", "HearthFires.esm" and "Dragonborn.esm" are official expansion packs. From this menu you can be selective in regards to what mods you'd like your game to start with by clicking the check mark next to their name.

Modifications will be loaded if they are enabled from the "Data Files" menu the next time you start your game. Many mods have their own instructions which are typically listed in the workshop description area. Certain mods may require a series of user commands to be ran before you'll be able to see their effect in-game.

@AJgaming231: It is. Unlike regular/LE Skyrim (aka "Oldrim"), Bethesda never made a Workshop for Skyrim SE on Steam. Instead, Bethesda kept it on their own site. That said, check your Steam library. You might be able to install Oldrim alongside SE, and there are ways of converting Oldrim mods to SE if you have the SE Creation Kit.

And there are always third-party modding sites like the Nexus -- https://www.nexusmods.com/ .

had similar issues in other games with mods i suscribed, then wanted not download more.
I think the only way is to unsuscribe, the close your steam. Look well in your datafolder if they don't remain some trace of it. Often a reboot of my pc helped to... strange and timeconsuming if you have several so, but this worked for me.
Then reopen Steam, resuscrib to the mods, and .. lot of hope that it works then. Happened also that Steam downloaded me folder with 0 ko inside :(. In this case, just start over again.
Some mods i had to make this 2-3 mal, then worked of one mal.
Steam can be tricky and buggy some days.

Thanks for the save tip, it's a real life saver.

What is "Load Order" and what does it matter?

I recently had to reinstall skyrim because of a bug. Fixed the bug, and there's no mods active on it. Problem is, even when I subscribe to mods, my launcher simply says "checking subscribed mod 1 0f 12" and then jumps straight to the synchronized status, without actually loading a single mod into data files. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Seems like I'm running into the same problem as several others here -- it'll say it's checking the mods I've subscribed to, sit at the first one for 20 or 30 seconds, then hop straight to saying it's finished syncing them when not a single one is loaded. Guess that means it's not a problem with my hardware, then, if other users are experiencing exactly the same issues.
