Description
UPDATE APRIL 2020
- Grasshopper now has some more thrusters and 8 atmospheric thrusters (downwards only)
- Grasshopper can now lift ~115 tons on earth. That's about 3 times its own mass.
- minor design changes
_________________________________________________________

The Grasshopper is a light and versatile cargo lifter that is designed to pick up and transport my Universal Cargo Units (UCU).

The UCU is a small grid of 10 large cargo containers. I use them on all of my transport ships. It's kind of the standard cargo unit of my personal SE universe.

The grasshopper has all the UCU's important block in it's menu bar (like the UCU's landing gears and connectors and artifical masses). You can land on a platform or ship or planet with the UCU, activate it's artificial mass from the Grasshoppers cockpit and the release the UCU by disconnecting the connector.

Fair enough lol. Maybe someday you'll get the itch again! I'm currently working on your Yllcaster and Twinport for my survival run.

much appreciated, but after almost 1700 hours I somehow had enough of designing clunky ships :-D

Aw sad. Was hoping to see some new ships from you soon. You and Spite's ISL collection are my favorites.

Maybe they changed something with the thrusters over the years or I had a mod installed when working on this, I don't remember.
I don't have SE installed for some years now, so I can't look into it, sorry. But if it works on SP, then maybe the MP server settings are lowering the thruster output or something?

In single player this works great but on my DS even with modded thrusters it just falls down with an empty UCU.

Hm. Maybe the thrusters changed somehow. I will have a look at the ship. Maybe it's time to upgrade it.

Yeah I gotta agree, this can barely handle the small version at full capacity with realistic weight on planets. Tested it in fresh vanilla, no mods.

yea friend said he tested it in creative and it worked.

maybe its something about sim-speed and keen-servers.
sim-speed has strange effects to speed and such.

anyways, we ended up with building a large grid ship with 4 large atmos (up) to lift the full UCU

thanx for your quick reply

I just tested it on a new savegame without mods and it easily lifted a full UCU (full of large steel tubes) without a problem. I play all my games with cargo capacity set to realistic.
