Timeless V2

The AK-47 Timeless V2 is a simplistic design for the AK-47 and a colour variation on the original AK-47 Timeless. My main goal with this skin was to create an AK-47 skin which was as close to reality as possible within the boundaries of the source engine. Ofcourse this meant that I had to create all the materials from scratch but also try to get the normal and specular map as realistic as possible. To view the details of the normal map and spec map I'd recommend to open the image in a new tab because they are taken in 4K. Obviously there are some parts, like the magazine and dust cover, that had to get some flair because a plain metal AK-47 with custom wood would seem more like a replacement texture than a skin on its own. I personally consider this skin to be in the high end of the mil-spec rarity and the low end of the restricted rarity. This skin will be part of the de_Studio skin collection which I will be filled during the upcoming few months. Because of this my fellow creators of de_Studio have helped with feedback and are therefore on the revenue share.

Work Progress

The work progress was challenging to say the least. Eventhough I had all the materials I needed I find the AK-47 one of the toughest weapons to create weapon finishes for. This is more than likely due to the shape of the weapon. There are tons and tons of small little UV's that need to be covered and things sticking out like the selector make it harder to find an overall likeable design.

Aside from this I got to say that I had quite a messy work progress. Normally I work in quite a neat manner and merge layers where possible to keep my file size at a minimum and the project organized. This skin was sadly enough the opposite so I'd like to see it as an organized mess in which I can find my ways eventually.

Wear Progress

Since it's a Gunsmith finish the wear is not really that special. It turns darker when it gets to battle-scarred and I capped it at 0.75 because otherwise I'd think it'd get too dark.

Final Words

In my final words I'd like to give a huge thank you to the community and Valve for giving me the amazing oppertunity to have my XM1014 | Oxide Blaze featured in the most recent Clutch Case, it is an honour. I also want to thank the team behind de_Studio for letting me work on the map, it's been a pleasure and I am happy with the end result. Lastly I'd like to say that I hope you enjoy this AK-47 skin. I had fun making it and learned some things along the way. Keep your eye out for more skins of the de_Studio collection on the workshop in the upcoming few weeks.

Much love!

Hollandje
