After spending all the time and resources required to research and then purchase my spiffy new Apophis, Malcheor or Severance I found that while these weapons performed as advertised, the visual reward was more than a little underwhelming. Tiny models appeared on my ship, barely visible just like every other light weapon turret in the game. BOOO!

But I fixes it...

I give to you 3 new turret models, each designed with its own researchable light weapon in mind. They are bigger, brighter and way scarier looking than those other things we've been forced to accept as advanced weaponry till now.

The Malcheor, though smallest of these new models, still averages double the size of a standard light weapon model. The increased size of these models can make them appear oversized and cause a minor amount of clipping on some gunship models. Though this is the only ship class I've found this problem with. To me at least they look 100% better on all other ship classes over the vanilla models. And better yet on the larger classes, dreads/carriers, you can still see them fine, no squinting required. Though the new models are much larger overall, their bases still share the same axis position, and approximate diameter as the stock turret bases so they fit seemlessly in all default turret positions on every ship. No .shp file overrides were required. If you are using a mod that alters or adds to a ships turret locations you still shouldn't have a problem unless you have some very tightly packed weapon batteries. Also, no changes were made to the projectile (firing) effects. I might take a poke at that later. Not a lot of experience yet with particle effects outside of making flashy bling for ships.

These models contain more detail than is nessessary even at their increased size due to my attempt at creating scaled up 3x models attached to their own new light weapons that would be designed for use on titans. This approach to fixing the tiny titan turrets problem actually worked... sort of... It seems turrets have a built in LOD that stops them rendering at a cam distance of 550. At 550 you cant see the vanilla models anyway, but when I scaled up these models and slapped them on the defiance, though they looked fantastically visible, they would suddenly disappear even though my ship was still hogging up half the screen space. Disappointing :( If anyone knows where to find this value, and its actually moddable, please let me know and i'll release a "BigGuns4Titans" mod in a big hurry.

If you're wondering "will he replace more weapon models outside of these 3?" the answer is no probably not. I have a life. But when and if I add any light weapons to the game they will certainly be accompanied by their own specific new model.

If you're looking to make your own turret models, I included some extra goodies inside that may be of some (limited) assistance. Check the ReadMe.txt for details. Any questions feel free to ask. Yes this mod will (should) work on any previously saved game. At least it does for me so it should for you.

No these turrets will not show up on Ashriari ships. I hope. Since the Ashriari dont have access to the weapons these models are attached to and their ships use invisible turret models. Genius design move btw... props to the devs!

I used these names for my models only to provide a clear description of which model will be associated with which SPGW light weapon in game. However, the models and textures within this mod are my artwork and property. Admittedly I may have gone a bit overboard in size and color with these models. However altering either, or both would be a time consuming process. I have not abandoned this mod and will continue to ensure that it functions but alternate versions in future are unlikely. I will look into ways of adjusting saturation of textures without altering them directly. Will let you know if I find anything useful.

the thing about this mod is : the models are extremly good but the colors are a bit too flashy and also : the models are to big for me...would be nice if you release a smaler version of this or a default size one with just model changes,because it looks weird having those big guns on a big ship for example...

The power and range of the weapons hasn't been altered from game default settings. This mod only alters the visual representation of the turret. However.... if the devs did any weapon re-balancing in any of the recent updates this mod will likely override some of their changes. I've always felt Heavy Weapons in this game are kinda weak. So much that I usually forget to launch any and just kill stuff with guns lol.
