Dear folks, lend me an ear!
Come, gather around the fire! Eat, drink and listen to the stories of your old veterans! Tomorrow we will reach the land of our enemies. Resolute and grim men will expect us. The battle will claim many victims, so look up to these warriors to learn from them and the stories they tell today!

Three months after release of The Townguard: Mob Upgrade here is a brand new mod for you. HEARTHFIRE is made to bring all Germanic factions the possibility of upgrading their levies. Therefor it introduces 15 new units with 14 unlockable unit upgrades and a new early game unit.

Short Content Summary
  • 15 new Germanic units
  • 14 unit upgrades that can be unlocked through research
  • Garrisons affected by unit upgrades, growing in size and strength
  • Hearthfire Veterans: Old warriors take their arms to inspire the young tribesmen
  • compatible with most other mods

For more information read the following description.

Hearthfire Veterans and Heroes
Every Germanic tribe has a few of these experienced veterans to recruit. They are recruitable with a low unit cap in every settlement. Therefor they have not the best equipment and no armour, but they will inspire your other troops and motivate them to increase their combat efficiency. Furthermore, these veterans fight with their unforgotten strength.
You can upgrade veterans into heroes with the "War Horn" technology (military, warrior code tree).

Club Warriors: Upgrade for Club Levy
You see, they're still using clubs, but now all of them wear helmets. Combat drill makes them better warriors than their Levy pendant so they'll try to beat down your enemy's infantry. Available with "Servants of the Elite" (military, warrior code tree).

Experienced Javelinmen: Upgrade for Germanic Youths
Stop sending your youths into combat when you really need soldiers with more experience. They throw their javelins with steady hands and won't run away that fast. Available with "Servants of the Elite" (military, warrior code tree).

Inspected Spears: Upgrade for Levy Spears
Not much better in combat, but higher morale and HP. Don't forget, they are still recruitable everywhere in your homeland and captured settlements. Available with "Servants of the Elite" (military, warrior code tree).

Germanic Tribesguard: Upgrade 1 for Germanic Tribesmen
You're going to defend your settlements while your armies are plundering far away? Time to raise guards with better skills and more equipment. These get more javelins to throw and have increased combat skills, morale and hit points. Available with "Large defences" (civil, construction tree).

Armoured Tribesguard: Upgrade 2 for Germanic Tribesmen
It will take a long time until your tribal elders accept the need of well armoured settlement defenders. But if you unlock them you'll get more and much better guards in your garrisons. Most buildings in the common or water tree will provide an additional garrison group to defend the growing settlement. You'll also be able to recruit them in high level towns and cities. Available with "Surrounded Settlement" (civil, last one in construction tree).

The units are available for all Germanic factions. You can play with Suebi or use a faction unlock mod to get them.

With the update in March 2018 the following units joined our team:

Round Shield Followers: Upgrade for Round Shield Swordsmen
Stronger and better in melee combat. An entourage of round shield swordsmen fights for the glory of his master with double determination.

Heavy Spearwall: Upgrade for Spear Wall
So many spears and now they wear leather armour to hold your line!

Mounted Vanguard: Upgrade for Mounted Scouts
They are not only scouts but vanguards. It's a difference.

Germanic Sea Warriors: Upgrade for Spear Levies on ships
You can compare these encouraged sea soldiers with round shield swordsmen. They are much better then the levy marine. You get them when you upgrade your land spear levies.

Deadly Hunting Riders: Upgrade for Hunting Riders
Not only for hunting but first of all for killing those enemies.

Odin's Devotees: Upgrade for Odins Spears/Wodanaz Spears
With heavy armour your so called best spearmen do their job to make it true.

Tyr's Chosen Women: Upgrade for Screaming Women
They are more, they are better, they wear better shields. You know what I mean. By they way I'm not sure about the English name of the basic unit but whatever.

Shield Virgins: Upgrade for Spear Women
They are stronger and now they know how to use this @@ shields.

Since February 8th, 2019, three new late game units are available:

Bloodsworn Followers: Upgrade for Bloodsworn
Better in combat, can use shield wall.

Spear Followers: Upgrade for Spear Brothers
Better in combat, can use shield wall.

Wolf-Bounded Ones: Upgrade for Wolf Warriors
These men have the wolf inside, but during battle it breaks out! They are even harder to kill and will bring more of your enemies down.

Additionals

Compatibility
Made for high compatibility so it should work with most other mods. If you're using mods thad define new garrison groups they won't include the upgraded units. Note that Hearthfire is made for vanilla Grand Campaign, Imperator Augustus and Caesar in Gaul. Use it together with overhauls like DEI at your own risk. I hope you understand that I cannot reliably check compatibly with mods I don't use personally. It is, of course, compatible with my other mods.

Unit Cards
The mod itself comes with 2D unit cards in the original style. If you like realistic 3D cards you can subscribe to my NordoPic mod.

Language Support
Original is in English, of course. German players can use NordoGerman or take the strings from there to their UPC pack file.

More and more…
Feel free to check other mods I made or use. You can browse through my workshop or check out my Rome II collection of all the mods I use.

Acknowledgments
Time to say thank you to all subscribers and supporters. If you like this mod I would be glad if you can give it a thumbs up. This will help other players to find it.
Enjoy your game!

Ps.: Please understand that I don't accept random friend requests.

No, this is a common bug that is not caused by the mod itself which provides all names and descrption correctly. I have no solution so far, maybe you find something.

there are no names listed for over half of the units for both multiplayer and the grand campaign

Are you sure this happens for units of this mod? They should have their names in English, you are the first one reporting this issue. Can you post a screenshot to show which units are affected?
Meeesaal 14 Aug, 2018 @ 4:16pm
Yes I am.
Nor Dogroth  [author] 14 Aug, 2018 @ 3:35pm
Are you playing in English?
Meeesaal 14 Aug, 2018 @ 3:26pm
