Jesters

Description
I was pleased to discover that Skyrim would be featuring a full set of jester clothes - but I was disappointed when there weren't any real jesters in the game, only an assassin dressed like one. Where are the motley fools who entertain the Jarls and their courts?

This mod adds a unique and fully AI-packed jester to the court of each jarl. Each Jester has their own unique face and name, and will dance and play instruments for the court. Additionally, each jester has their own face paint pattern in the colour of their Hold's flag (ie, yellow for Whiterun, blue for Eastmarch, etc.) and play different instruments from castle to castle - so the jester in Dragonsreach will play the drums, the jester in the Palace of the Kings the flute, the jester in Understone Keep the lute, and so on.

Revision 4 - 5 August 2012. I've packaged face gen files with the mod, so the jesters will now display their true colours. I also gave each jester a unique name, since they're pretty much unique in every other way. Fans of the Ultima games (or at least Spoony) might want to visit the Blue Palace for a surprise...

Revision 3 - 5 April 2012. Jesters now have a new idle marker that allows them to use Cicero's dance moves.

Revision 2 - 20 Feb. 2012. I have fixed the problem with jesters not playing their instruments - apparently, I needed to put an idle marker in order for them to do it. Now, they should be working. The jesters play the lute in Solitude, Markarth, and Morthal; the drums in Whiterun, Falkreath, and Riften; and the flute in Windhelm, Dawnstar, and Winterhold. I have also made it so that their faces are paler than the rest of their bodies to complete the face paint effect. They still have grey faces for me, but apparently that's a glitch in the Creation Kit and it should be fixed eventually.

Still works great in 2023 (till the next update anyway). They only have “hmm?” dialogue but are visually excellent and have good navmeshing. Thx, upvoted.

Great to see more NPCs in Skyrim especially in a role which is obviously missing, I wish that they didn't say "need something?" quite so much. They've got some nice thieving gear on them too! I'd also recommend The 9 Traveling bards of Skyrim for more non-merchant non-adventurer characters.
