Introduction
A Hat in Time is a fairly in-depth collectathon platformer with some puzzle elements. Below is a detailed guide on how to complete each achievement in the game, including all DLC.

There are no missable achievements and everything can be obtained at your leisure; there are some co-op achievements as well and the game will utilize the Steam Workshop for some of them.

Additionally, a few achievements can be obtained differently than how I describe them; some have multiple possibilities (see the comments at the bottom of the guide), so get creative!

Put on your questing hat and let's get started.

Hub World Achievements
"Pillow Fort"
Find Hat Kid's Secret Hideout!
In your bedroom, you'll find a delightful pillow fort. Once you have the ice hat, equip it and swim to the light on the left-hand side.

Jump up and use your ability to enter your special hideout! A fun little easter egg as well; the diary in the fort will have different journal entries depending on the last thing you did, so be sure to check back often to see all the different entries.

"Vacuum Vandal"
Ride the vacuum!
You know that vacuum that constantly runs into the walls and your ankles? Jump on top of it and go for a ride!

Riding the vacuum as it aimlessly roams about will unlock this achievement.

Despite the vacuum's face, it clearly enjoys giving you rides around the ship. Promise! Just look at its happy, smiling face! =)

It might take a few tries to jump onboard, but if you gently give it a kick (gently), then it will stop moving momentarily and give you an opportunity to jump on top of it.

"If I fit, I sit"
Sit in 3 different chairs!
Let loose your inner cat and take a seat. The game is scattered with chairs, benches and pillows you can sit on. Sitting on any three items will unlock this achievement.

Just look for anything with a red star and take a seat.

The easiest way to unlock this is within the spaceship hub world; sit in the chair in your bedroom, the pillow in the main hall and the pilot's chair in the same room and you'll unlock this achievement.

"Fan-tastic!"
Hook onto a ceiling fan with the hookshot!
For this one, you'll need both the ice hat and the hookshot badge. You can obtain the hookshot badge in Chapter 3: Subcon Forest, Act 2: Clean the Well, located at the bottom of the well. You can't miss it. In the main room of your ship, go to the slide near the door to Chapter 2 and use your ice hat to launch yourself up into the mail room. Using the hookshot badge, hook onto the ceiling fan and the achievement will unlock.

Mafia Town Achievements
"Let there be light"
Light up the spaceship!
Once you collect the first Time Piece in Mafia Town, you'll return and restore partial power to your spaceship, triggering this achievement.

"One Punch"
Defeat any boss with the 1-hit hero badge equipped!
In order to earn this achievement, you'll have to beat any main boss without being hit. Side bosses do not count. I personally did it on the Mafia Town boss, as his attack pattern is pretty easy to dodge overall. Some say Snatcher might be a bit easier due to his low health compared to all other bosses.

"Encore!"
Complete The Big Parade without falling into the audience below!
In The Big Parade (Chapter 2, Act 5), complete the whole level without once touching/falling into the audience, which is the floor of the whole area. If you fall and take damage, you'll have to restart the act from the beginning.

Sequence Break
No hand-holding for you, apparently!
Start Welcome To Mafia Town (Chapter 1, Act 1) and instead of going along the path, turn around and jump over the railing to the side and head to the well where you collected the first time piece beforehand.

Disclaimer: If the Mustache Girl appears (meaning you went forward too far) or you hit the button on the crane (which causes her to appear automatically), this achievement will not unlock and you'll have to start over again.

"A Series of Unfortunate Accidents"
Knock off all the sitting Mafia in Mafia Town!
For this, you'll have to find five members of the Mafia that are sitting on various ledges and punt them off the edge. How rude of you! They can be found here:

"Slip 'n Slide"
Slide down a really long slope!
In Chapter 1 (any Act) of Mafia Town, head over to the beach and climb up to either yellow slide. Jump in and slide down it to unlock this achievement.

"Mafia Town - All clear!"
Collect all Time Pieces in Mafia Town!
Once you collect all the Time Pieces from the acts and the Time Rifts, this achievement will unlock. For those searching for the Rift locations, see the locations listed below.

Here are the locations of the Mafia Town Rifts:

After completing "Heating up Mafia Town".
Any Act
On the Mafia Town beach, next to the red teapot launcher.
After completing the "Hamburger" relic
Battle of the Birds Achievements
"Why"
just... why... ?
There are a few ways you can do about unlocking this achievement.

Method #1:
In Murder on the Owl Express (Chapter 2, Act 2), one of the crows in the Cafeteria asks you which of your body parts you are ashamed of; if you answer with something inappropriate, such as "Panis" (spelled correctly of course), or "Boobs", you'll unlock it. Additionally, any typical swear words will unlock it as well.

Method #2:
The computer in the room of Chapter 2 let's you input words into it and if you insert any of the above (or any swear words) it will also unlock for you.

"Battle of the Birds - All clear!"
Collect all Time Pieces in Battle of the Birds!
Collect all Time Pieces in Chapter 2, this includes 6 Time Pieces from the Acts and 3 Time Pieces from the Time Rifts of this Chapter. For those searching for the Rift locations, see the locations listed below.

Here are the locations of the Battle of the Birds Rifts:

Image

Murder on the Owl Express
Located in the dinning cart by the locked door.
Complete both "Murder on the Owl Express" and "Picture Perfect".
Picture Perfect/The Big Parade
Located on the bottom awning (green one) in front of the saxophone sign.
After completing both "Train Rush" and "The Big Parade".
Dead Bird Studio Act
Located on the house after you sneak past the Conductor for the first time. It's near the Ice Yarn (or was if you already got it)
Appears when you complete the train relic.
Battle of the Birds Achievements
"No Time To Explain"
Complete Train Rush without dying or time bonuses!
This achievement is possible without the Time Stop Hat, but it is significantly more difficult. You can craft the Time Stop Hat after finding time stop yarn in the Alpine Skyline level, which is what I recommend using when working towards this achievement.

"True Detective"
Find all Murder on the Owl Express clues!
You can collect them in any order from the following locations:

Image
Location
Located on the ground in the middle of the Rec Room.
Located in the Luggage Room. Search the corner that's guarded by two C.A.W. Agents. You need to jump onto the walls and wall jump so the C.A.W. Agent can move past, or so you can reach the ledge on the right path.
Located in the VIP Room, where a C.A.W. agent circles it. Avoid the Agent and grab the evidence.
Located in the Engine Room; you'll need to platform up to the top to trigger the switch.
Located in the Lounge Room and protected by two more C.A.W. Agents who patrol the floor.
Located in the unnamed room with the "KEEP OUT" painted on it. This should be the last one you pick up because once you exit (with or without the evidence) it will end the mission.

"False Detective"
Make it through Murder on the Owl Express without finding any clues (you suck)!
Complete Murder on the Owl Express (Chapter 2, Act 2) like you would normally, but do not collect any of the evidence folders. At the end, you can still select the murderer as The Conductor without collecting any of them. Once you do, this achievement will unlock.

"Secret Intruder"
Make it through Dead Bird Studio without being seen at all!
Enter Dead Bird Studio (Chapter 2, Act 1) and complete the level without even once being seen by an enemy. This includes them seeing you without you being reset and charged. The owls' line-of-sight is shown where they are walking, so keep an eye out and go slowly, watching for their movement patterns and you shouldn't have any problems with this one.

"Fueling the Feud"
Get a total of 2000 points in Battle of the Birds!
While playing acts 2-5, you'll earn a certain score based on your performance of each act. Depening on the score at the end, the higher or the two will become the boss you must face.

Only the Conductor's acts grant bonuses to make up for their lower quantity of Icons, but it's still much harder to get high scores on those stages than on DJ Groove's.

When the player enters Act 6 it will confirm the winner of the awards, but before then they can return to previous missions to increase the score of either director. If the directors are tied, it will select one at random upon playing Act 6.

The breakdown for the scoring is as follows:

What
Act
Score Bonus
Director Icons
Any Act
100 Points Per
Pons Collected
Any Act
4 Points Per
Evidence Collected
"Murder on the Owl Express"
60 Points Per
Time Bonus
"Train Rush"
3 Points Per/Sec
Subcon Forest Achievements
"Afraid of Water"
Don't fall into the rising water in Subcon Well!
In The Subcon Well (Chapter 3, Act 2) you need to unplug the Subcon Well, allowing the water to rise out of the hole. For this achievement, you need to climb all the way out without allowing Hat Girl to fall into the water below. When you initially unplug the well, you'll be ankle deep in water, but this does not affect the achievement. Once you start platforming, if you fall, only then will you need to restart the act.

"Take a Hike"
Climb to the top of Subcon Forest's big mushroom!
In Chapter 3 of the Subcon Forest, select the first act and when you start, turn directly around. See that giant tree with the mushroom at the top? You'll have to climb that to the very top, so I'd advise having the umbrella badge to avoid any fall damage. Once there, the achievement will unlock. Don't forget to get the present up top and earn yourself a rift token for your hard work!

"Subcon Forest - All clear!"
Collect all Time Pieces in Subcon Forest!
Collect all Time Pieces in Chapter 3, this includes 6 Time Pieces from the Acts and 3 Time Pieces from the Time Rifts of this Chapter.

Here are the locations of the Subcon Forest Rifts:

Alpine Skyline Achievements
"The Floor is Lava"
Complete the Lava Cake peak without touching the lava at all!
In The Lava Cake (Chapter 4), you'll need to climb the tower all the way to the top without touching any of the lava. However, other forms of damage from fire are fine. Once you collect the time piece at the top, the achievement will unlock.

"Alpine Skyline - All clear!"
Collect all Time Pieces in Alpine Skyline!
Unlike other chapters, Alpine Skyline contains a free roam section that has four mountain tops that Hat Girl must travel to, climb and parkour her way to the top to collect. You'll collect one piece in each of the areas: The Birdhouse • The Lava Cake • The Windmill • The Twilight Bell

Once you have, a mysterious illness will spread throughout the level and you'll have to travel back to the top of each mountain and defeat a mini-boss. Once all of them have been defeated, you'll be awarded another time piece. Alpine Skyline does include time rifts like the other levels and they can be found here:

Twilight Bell
Not in free roam, select the "Twilight Bell" act. The rift will be on your immediate right on the tree.

Artic Cruise Achievements (DLC)
"Minimum Shippable"
Clear Ship Shape Without Upsetting The Captain!
Practice. Practice. Practice. It's recommended that you use the Sprint Hat for this one and know the layout of the ship. If you complete all the tasks while the Captain's mood is still "blue", you'll unlock this achievement. This is doable on Chapter 6, Act 2.

"The Arctic Cruise - All clear!"
Collect all Time Pieces in The Arctic Cruise!
There's a total of three acts and two time rifts for the DLC level. Complete all five areas to unlock this achievement. The two Time Rifts are located here:

After completing the Relic "Cake Museum"
Nyakuza Metro (DLC)
"Stick It To The Man"
Collect your first holographic sticker!
Separate from regular stickers, when a holographic sticker spawns, you will be notified of which act it is in by the name. To make things easier, equip the Compass Badge (sold by the Mafia Boss for 400 pons) to show a rainbow arrow towards the location of the sticker.

While stickers were introduced in the Nyakuza Metro DLC, this can be done on any map you'd like or happen to be on at the time.

"A Work of Art"
Put 10 different stickers on a single screenshot!
With the introduction of the Nyakuza Metro DLC, you now have the ability to collect stickers. There are a total of 55 unique ones and you'll start with three when loading a save file. In the Myakuza Metro there are an additional 52 to find and collect.

Once you have ten different stickers and the Camera Badge, which is found on an island along with The Tourist in Mafia Town, you can now take pictures and include any stickers you've collected from your adventures thus far on the frame. Snap one with ten unique ones to unlock this achievement.

"Stickin' Star"
Collect 30 Stickers in Nyakuza Metro
There are a total of 55 stickers to collect in and around the metro. You'll start with three upon loading a save file, which means there will still be 52 for you to collect. Once you collect any 30 stickers, this achievement will unlock. See the below achievement for a list of how many stickers are in each act.

Workshop Achievements
"Unlimited Possibilities"

"Community Contributor"
Rate a Steam workshop level in the community workshop.
Download any workshop level from Steam and jump right in. You can find a Mafia member in the mail room on your ship who will allow you to select any downloaded level to play. When you complete the level you'll be prompted to rate the map as shown in the screen below. Afterwards, the achievement will unlock.

"The Community Thanks You"
Collect 30 Mod Rift Tokens from Steam Workshop levels
You can earn Mod Rift Tokens by completing objectives and earning Time Pieces in Steam Workshop levels. Each Time Piece earned will count as one Mod Rift Token. You can check your Rift Token count at the beginning of the game when you select your save file:

"Challenge Road"
Clear a Challenge Road!
Challenge Road is a mode that compiles a handful of community mod levels and tasks the player with completing them with only three lives. It can be accessed by speaking to the Mafia Goon in the Mail Room to get started.

First, you'll download all he required level mods from the workshop (unless you already have them). The Challenge Road can be as short as two levels to as many as seven. Complete them in order without losing all your lives to earn this achievement. If you die three times, you'll have to start from the beginning.
Misc Achievements
"Put a Badge On It"
Put on your first badge!
I don't think this one needs any tips. Once you earn your first badge and put it on your default hat, you'll unlock this one. Simple, right?!

"Badge Master"
Equip 3 badges!
At the start of her adventure Hat Kid can equip only one badge. To equip multiple badges, one must purchase Badge Pins first. The first pin can be bought after getting 3 Time Pieces, and the second after getting 14, allowing Hat Kid to have up to three badges equipped at a time. You can buy the badge pins from the trader throughout any of the levels.

"Personally I Prefer the Air"
Do 5 homing attacks in a row, without touching the ground!
There are two places that you can do this at.
Method #1:The first one is in Mafia Town around a blue vault ticket. If you collect it, you'll encounter several crows, which you can draw close enough to do the homing attacks on.

Method #2: The second is in the free roam section of Alpine Heights (Chapter 4). Head towards the lava cakes like normal and take the right path where the spiders drop down from the sky. You'll jump on the first three, but instead of landing on the wooden platform to the left, continue right and you'll spawn more spiders.

"360 no-feet"
Do a 360 flip on the scooter!
Buy the Scooter Badge from the badge seller and equip it. Now equip your sprinting hat and activate your sprinting ability, this should make you ride a scooter. You'll want to be on a fairly high ledge and drive the scooter off said ledge and spin (horizontally). Once you land this achievement will unlock.

Disclaimer: While the description says to do a flip, you can't, so spinning 360 degrees with earn you the achievement.

"Return Home"
Collect all Time Pieces!
Once you collect your 40th and final time piece, this achievement will unlock.
If you've collected all the time pieces detailed above and are still missing some, remember the ones located on the ship's hub area. You can find them here:
  • Green Time Rift in the mail room on the ship - you need the ice hat to get inside the room. The entrance is up the slide in the main hub of the space ship.
  • Green Time Rift in the Chapter 2's hub. Once you enter it, go to the left through the green door with the brush on it. The rift will be in the center of the room.
Death Wish Achievements

I don't know why it says "I refuse to die" only requires 111 of 114 stamps, I just finished it (after a looooooong and exhausting time) and didn't get the achievement until I got the 114th stamp.

Fawbo don't worry there's a few "Rift Token Achievement levels on the Steam Workshop that are filled with free rift tokens specifically for that achievement. A lot of the harder achievements also have workshop bypasses (you can even instantly complete every vanilla Death Wish if you want), so search them up if you ever get stuck

There is a third place you can do personally I prefer the air, in subcon forest there is an area with 4 spiders in a row and if you dash back you have barely enough time to do a homing attack on it.

I also got the "360 no-feet" in the hub, at the main room. Just jump and spin fast. No need for a high ledge.
