Except for Stake traps being useless, its the cheapest way to kill early zombie waves, just need around 3x6 stake traps and a couple of rangers can very cheaply kill the first 2 waves around day 7-20 on the highest difficulties, it allows you to play very greedy from the start. If you don't use traps you will probably spend more resources on walls and towers for the defense, not to mention it lets your units continue clearing the whole time.
Also Soldiers are far more beginner friendly than snipers, if you get overwhelmed while clearing u can easily retreat, and they are much easier to reposition when defending, its typically never bad to make 15-30 of them before moving on to snipers, the extra gold saved is also not bad.Going for snipers earlier is more greedy, but usually works out fine because people know how the game works and where they need to position.
Thanks for your excellent work btw.
Find it funny how close my opener was to your strategy guide. My economy was shakey and I didn't realize until it was too late how expensive the upkeep on executors are. Thanks for the heads up on a good proper defense and unit combo. I'll be using this in my next play throughs. :)
btw, you might want to take another look at your guide now that lucifers and soldiers regen rates have been buffed. Lucifers standing beside shocking towers will keep hordes at bay once the walls have fallen...and man, soldiers are perfect for kiting now - hell, people might actually start to use honest to goodness 'fire and maneuver' leapfrog tactics when you have a group of them.
ZOMBIE PATHING
again, they patched in some new random zigs to the normal zombie zag...might want to retest your 'door knocker' technique to make sure it can still pass muster.
...
other than that, great introductory guide with very easy to read text accompanied by smart looking pics. kudos.
i'll back up the recent criticism about your dismissive attitude for stakes: i love them for the ability to aid rangers in silently killing off runners/packs that are dangerously near VODs, corner of the map (spitters/chubbies/harpies) ... compared to "door knocker" walls that give off alot of sound.
in the beginning of the game 30 gold per stake is a hell of a sum, so building them willy-nilly is madness. But, when you're expanding to within spitting distance of VODs, they'll keep zombies from knocking on buildings/walls, which in turn allows rangers to hold their own.
