[HullTec] Redeemer Class Gravity Cannon

In 1 collection by Hull Breach
Hull's Military Ships - Large Grid
18 items
Description
This ship works without mods but I highly recommend the "projection to assembler mod".

Description

- Faction: Stellar Confederation
- Class: Destroyer / Mobile Anti-Ship Cannon / Orbital Strike Cannon

The Redeemer was designed for only one purpose: To destroy capital ships.

This ship is in fact a large gravity cannon. It has no turrets and needs to be protected by other military ships. It can produce and fire large block projectiles made of masses, warheads (armed) and some armor blocks. It penetrates every armor and explodes inside enemy ships.

How to use

1. enter pilot seat
2. open the front hangar doors (press 7)
3. make sure, the projector is on (it is by default)
4. activate the ship's welders (press 3)
5. after the projectile is built, stop the welders (press 3 again)
6. aim by turning your ship to the hostile ship. What you see trough that little hole at the end of your ship, is what you will hit with your projectile
8. once you positioned the redeemer, stop moving and turn the grinders on (press 4), to seperate the freshly built projectile from your ship.
9. Activate the firing sequence by pressing 1. The gravity generators along the ships large tube will be activated for a few seconds. The Projectile will be accelerated to max speed in a split second.
10. watch the projectile rip a giant hole into the enemy ship

Simple but brutally effective

I don't know why, but whenever I activate the welders, my ship accelerates incredibly fast, and nothing, not reverse-thrust, or even shutting off the power, or welders, can prevent this. Maybe mine is just bugged, so if anyone knows how to fix this, help would be appreciated. :)

Okay. At one point, I was using this for orbital bombardment, so I just put a camera on the front, and used a ranging shot and eyeballing to compensate for the offset. Still my favorite heavy weapon in Space Engineers.

@WillCo
I just changed the projectile. I didn't add a camera because I can't place it "centered". So the camera would be less precise than just aiming from the cockpit. Just use the welders as "notch and bead sights". I painted the last two welders red for better aiming.

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't even know I made the last block from heavy armor. I will change this.

I absolutely love this thing. It's incredibly overpowered. Imagine my joy when I realized that the shell only detonates after it pierces the armor. Typically, when I use this, it will blow out the back on the target ship.
Two suggestions for future updates, though.
1: The grinding is the most time consuming part of the firing process, because the piece that is ground is made of heavy armor. I would recommend altering the shell blueprint so that that piece is light armor or something softer.
2: A camera. This thing is great for destroying the enemy from a distance of several kilometers. Unfortunately, there aren't any cameras on the ship, which makes aiming from that kind of distance rather hard. Please add a camera, so that the zoom function can be used to aim from afar.
