F-8 Hummingbird

This is the first craft in my line of ships produced by my fictional company HubCorp, i will also start adding a history/lore section in my descriptions because people seem to like that stuff.


F-8 Hummingbird

History:
During the first war between the forces of earth and the evl space spiders the issue arose that there were no long ranged fighters avaliable for the earthen forces, as their fleet was focused on Space Assult, not atmospheric. The Newly formed spaceship manufacturer HubCorp was given its first assignment: create a cheap, versatile assult craft capable of long range missions. In a month the final result, the F-8 Hummingbird, began mass production. The craft served as a fighter, capable of attacking anywhere on the planet from a single base. It had an innovative new system of long range movement (explained in next section) that allowed it to stay airborn for extreme periods of time without refueling. the new craft was a success! the tide of the war rapidly changed to give the human forces a major advantage over their arachnid adversaries. they were soon able to send the spiders packing to their home planet. when earthen forces were able to set up a base of operations on the alien planet they found that the hummingbird still retained its amazing qualities. soon after the introduction of the F-8 the spiders signed a treaty to end the war.

In SE:
The main peice of importance in the hummingbird is its long range. this is something I have not encountered anywhere else in SE. the way it can travel so far is in its ability to turn off its braking thrusters, essentailly making it frictionless in the air. With the bottom thrusters providing lift it can "glide" for extended periods of time without having to use the main thrusters, saving much energy. in this state, if equipped with 100 uranium ingots, it can sty airborn for up to 24 earth hours. With that aside it is a great fighter craft that flies like a dream. Equipped with 2 rocket launchers (non reloadable) and 4 gatling guns it is a formidable enemy and a valuable asset. Its range also allows it to serve as a reconnisance craft. In times of peace it is also very good at taking out trees with its rockets.
