Description
Update: 17.10.2021 In this mod I used a belt model made by Leonardo the Great. He is gone ... but his memory will remain in his fantastic models, which should not be forgotten.

06.10.2018 Full reskin all roman units of all Roman factions, including the Gallic and Palmyra empires. Some auxiliary units have also been modified. Most roman ridge helmets and chain shoulders have been removed.
07.01.2018 All rounded scutums were replaced by rectangular.
13.12. 2017. The shields of the Jovians and Herculians have been given their proper historically accurate shields

Hello everyone! I am proud to present to you my newest mod for the new DLC Empire Divided. This is a fairly small overhaul, I have made several changes that seem logical to me and help to create more historically accurate gameplay. The main goal of this mod is to improve the gameplay mechanics and also the appearance of units. This mod affects three in-game aspects.

UNITS:
Most Roman units have been completely reskinned, not only the armies of Aurelian's Rome, but also the armies of Gallic and Palmyrian Rome. I tried to represent roman units accurately, based on historical sources, along with various descriptions and pictures. I've additionally created new models of regimentals and ammunition. I changed the Roman ridge helmet, to the model from Attila, because it has a better texture. You can compare the two, and see the difference in the screenshots. The colors of the Roman faction have been changed as well. Yellow is replaced by white and red is replaced by claret. In addition, I have added a new units to the roman units roster for each roman faction. These are Roman milites and regular auxiliary cohorts which are included in the AOR system. Thus allowing each of the units to be recruited only in their home province or region. The names of all cohorts are completely authentic.

So, here is the list of units represented in this mod:

Auxiliary Milites (Western)

Auxiliary Milites (Eastern)

Auxiliary Cohors Petreorum (Arabian_Auxilia)

Auxiliary Cohors Dacorum (Auxilia_Dacia)

Auxiliary Cohors Thracum (Thracian_Auxilia)

Auxiliary Cohors Illyricorum (Illyrian_Auxilia)

Auxiliary Cohors Celtiberorum (Iberian_Auxilia)

Cohors Thracum veterana (Hellenic_Auxilia)

Auxiliary Cohors Bosporanorum ( Eastern_Auxilia)

Auxiliary Cohors Numidarum (Numidian_Auxilia)

Cohors Damascenorum sagittarium (Eastern_Auxilia)

Cohors Hamiorum sagittarium ((Arabian_Auxilia)

GARRISONS:
The garrison size has been increased for all factions. Each new city and military barracks level gives you one additional unit slot. Military training camps bring additional units for city protection too. Roman milites recruited from the local population will complement the garrisons of each Roman city.

ECONOMY:
The income of cities with special resources is increased. The larger treasury will allow you and AI to recruit more expensive units which will make the game more exciting.

Skálmöld 29 Aug, 2022 @ 5:13pm
is there any way to replace the 3rd cen BC celtic swords with spathas and or other culturaly appropriate swords

would love to see armoured horse archers for the gallic and Aurelian Roman factions as historically this would be accurate

Guys .. this is an awesome work! I can assure that he made an accurate reskin of the most important reforms that changed the roman army among end of III and start of IV century. First the Gallienvs (253-268BC) reforms that kept Segmentata and legios but reduced number and create "Vexillatios" (fast chosen corps, most cavalry) and Constantine I (305-337BC) reform!! Doing something so accurate is just quite rarely! Thank you Andrew!

Hey @Andrew. Great mod and I really love the reskins. I only have one concern. the spears of the auxiliary cohors thracum seem to be missing. Will this be fixed in the next update? thanks

Is there a separate mod for just the reskins?

Also, nice job with including some stuff from Leonardo's third century legionary mod as well. You should see if you can include the round shield he used for his roman legionaries and also the various shield textures/decorations as well. The more variety available the better, in my opinion.

Hi, just thought I'd check back in with a bit more constructive criticism. I like what you've done so far with the variation of swords used by the legionaries, but there's still a couple units for Aurelian's Rome that are using only the gladius, a few units for Gallic Rome that are using only the spatha(this may be intentional to more clearly show their celtic heritage maybe?) The armored swordsmen unit that Palmyra has could also use some variation in swords too.

I also noticed that the Longsword Cohort unit has basically identical equipment,(sword, shield and armor) to the regular Cohort unit that Gallic Rome has. You might want to try and vary up a bit, include more variety in the shields, add in some segementa and scale armor to mix up the armor as well.

Hello, auxiliary cohors thracum spearmen seem to be missing spears, they have no weapon in their right hand.
