But I see now how it's a fitting icon for that period of Greece's history, again well done!
As for the emblem, the phoenix as a symbol of post-Ottoman Greece actually has a much longer history than just the junta, it was heavily associated with the war of independence and was used all the time as a metaphor for Greece rising into its independence post 'death' at the hands of the Ottomans. Given this is the only proper post-Ottoman Greece civ, I decided to go with the Phoenix over the Cross because it represents a broader period, stands out more, and connects the civ to classical mythology - which given how the design is all about establishing connections with the past - seemed appropriate!
