Description

Bring Greece out of the ancient world, kicking and screaming, and into modernity with Eleftherios Venizelos' modern Greek Kingdom. After centuries of subjugation at the hands of Romans and Turks, Greece launched a violent struggle for national independence and unification in the 19th century. Although winning her independence in 1832, she faced decades of war and tense negotiations before all the worlds Greeks could breathe free under a blue and white banner. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Eleftherios Venizelos' gave his all fighting for this goal, doubling Greek territory and establishing modern Greece as we know it. For this, he is fondly remembered as 'Ethnarch' - father of his people.

Full support for RED, JFDLC, Events and Decisions, YNAEMP, Civ IV traits and Historical Religions!

If you liked this, please leave a thumbs up, it helps a bunch!

Big thanks and tonnes of credit to Chrisy15, who did basically all the lua, Regalman for the map, and Darth who repeatedly pulled me out of the fire with pedias and endless fixes to my .dds conversions. Not to mention everyone who supported the mod over in the civ V modding community - you all know who you are! And last but not least, thanks to MC for allowing me to pull this tasty morsel off of your husk in the first place. Love ya.

I don't know what happened, but lately this mod appears to conflict with YnAEMP v25 when using the Giant Europe map.

Ok so I'm not the smartest tool in the shed, but I've downloaded the mod and applied it to a new game, but Venizelos doesn't show up as an option to play as. What am I doing wrong?

All of you making these idiotic jokes about Greece, just show what complete brainless drones you are. Take a look at how many nations are indebted and ask to whom they're indebted, why and how this is happening. Not that you will bother, you're just a bunch of hopeless little parrots.

So keep eating the bullshit your media gods feed you, you will never bring the Hellenic people down.

Yes of course you're right about the phoenix being used very often in Greek culture. Too bad some people used it as a symbol for their backward ideology and it's now associated with them, same as the swastika.

But I see now how it's a fitting icon for that period of Greece's history, again well done!

@Vasilas Thanks for the compliments! Glad you enjoyed it!

As for the emblem, the phoenix as a symbol of post-Ottoman Greece actually has a much longer history than just the junta, it was heavily associated with the war of independence and was used all the time as a metaphor for Greece rising into its independence post 'death' at the hands of the Ottomans. Given this is the only proper post-Ottoman Greece civ, I decided to go with the Phoenix over the Cross because it represents a broader period, stands out more, and connects the civ to classical mythology - which given how the design is all about establishing connections with the past - seemed appropriate!
