Karak Hirn, the Hornhold

Description
The Lore
Karak Hirn, known as the "Hornhold" to humans, is the most important Dwarf kingdom in the Black Mountains between Tilea and the southern borders of The Empire. Some of the cities that make up this hold are built on the mountain's side, and a few are even exposed to the air.

The Map
Karak Hirn, the Hornhold it's a medium-big dwarf siege map, located in the Black Mountains, between the Empire and the Border Princess. It's a dwarfen city carved into a mountain, giving them an incredible defensive position in case of attack. This map is divided into three areas:
  • The ramp: the land between the starting area of the attacker and the walls is a long downward ramp that allows the defender to decimate the attacker while approaching, but it gives the attacker an elevated terrain for artillery.
  • The walls: a double-layered wall (the external layer admits artillery, cavalry and monsters in it. It's a bit hard to put them in and the AI doesn't use it, but you can) that gives the defenders an incredible defensive position, with only a double gate as entrance to the city, and lava pits working as a barrier for the attackers approach to the walls.
  • The city: connected to the walls through three easely defended ramps, the city is a little maze of streets that ends in the only Victory point of the map.
How to play
You can play this map in two modes:
  • Land battle: Select the map from the "Land Battle" maps in custom battle. Easier to play in multiplayer, but you will not have siege equipement and the capture points do nothing.
  • Siege battle: Select the map from the "Siege Battle" maps in custom battle (It's called "Karak Hirn, the Hornhold", with a CA logo). A bit harder to play it in multiplayer because the other guys need to download the map first, but you can use siege equipement and the capture points work.

The FAQ
  • Can you put everything in the walls?: Yep. It's a bit clunky (you need to deploy them with right click and hold, as normal right click doesn't work for that, and you will not see the "ghost" unit where the unit will be deployed while deploying them) but it works. Nothing like putting flamecannons on the walls and watch the toasted rats of the ramps!
  • Why does it have that enviroment?: This map was initially designed in July as a minor generic dwarven hold for Warhammer 1. As you can see, many things have changed, including the "minor generic" designation. Then in October, when it was almost finished, there were some plans to turn it into Karak Zorn, but in an entire month there were barely advances on that, so in the end I called Karak Hirn, as is the most.... fitting (lorefrienly) location for the map.
  • Why can the flying units fly throught the pillars?: It was that, or having them flying over the entire pillar.

Lovely visuals. However it has some major flaws. The front ring of walls looks cool but is really buggy for troop movement. The flame canons at the gate are also cool but aren't balanced and at the very least desperately need a capture point to take them over. Also need the structures in front of the back line of walls to be destroyed with the walls as they still block sightlines to the units hiding behind them.

This map needs GCCM2: Custom Assets to work. Subscribe to that one and you'll see the gates.
