The way I plan to update these ruins with 2nd and 3rd floors, you should be able to pick up each floor as a group without issues.

Its a good idea, and I could look into having it be a feature of my terrain; I do intend to make platforms for 2nd and 3rd floors in the future.
I have one sugguestion that could be of interest,
Imagine making a house or a tower, and say they are tall, maybe having 2 floors.
Now imagine we cut the house or tower into 2, vertically, so we have a top and bottom section,
and we can move the pieces about, so we could then place units in the bottom section, and place the top section above the bottom to lock them in, this could be very usefull for quickly placing units on different levels in a building.
Anything simple like a box with 4 walls, maybe having some windows and a door, possibly stairs, and then just simply copying these and placing it above each other.
And if the units are inside, you could probably pick up the entire floor and this would also pick up at the same time the units inside.
Combined with your grid snapping, this could be a really cool addition ^^
