Legion Mod - Alternate

Description
Legion: Gains the Testudo promotion (+15% defense against ranged attacks).

- - - - - - - -

The new promotion is a simple and flavorful representation of Rome’s famous testudo (“tortoise”) formation where each soldier worked together to form a barrier of tower shields to protect them from ranged attacks. Also, this now gives the Legion a promotion which will remain with it as it upgrades to more powerful units.

I also felt that the Legion should be quite powerful since it’s limited by your quantity of iron early in the game, unlike most of the other early unique units which either replace a regular unit or grant the ability to build them without the strategic resource. The Companion Cavalry and Cataphract are the only other early uniques which are limited by a resource (horses, which are a little more common than iron and located more often in fertile areas).

can you make it so that Legions can build improvements after upgrading them?

Will this disable the road building promotion?

Allrighty :). I can't run any of those games (I have an 8 years old windows XP), but I'm planning to get XCOM2 when I get around to buying a new one (I played xcom:apocalypse when I was like 8). I'm already looking forward to seeing your work there :D

I'm currently focused on Beyond Earth; and also XCOM2 (when it's released) since that'll now utilize the Steam Workshop as well. :)

@Barathor you are entirely correct, the phalanx is an entirely different setup. I really love your mods and the quality they offer, are you modding for any other communities at the moment or did you stop modding alltogether?

*sigh* (This is why I'm glad I don't mod Civ 5 anymore... everybody is a history expert and/or they want things to be over realistic and less abstract at the cost of gameplay and balance.)

Google "testudo formation". It's Roman.
The Roman testudo and the Greek phalanx are both famous types of shield wall formations. The testudo was a tactic primarily used against missle fire, hence the promotion in this mod.

This mod doesn't seem to be working for me... I enabled it, but nothing changes. What's wrong?

I wan't to make a similar mod that instead of ranged cover gives straight up a defensive bonus when adjacent to another unit, can you or anybody else help me make this?

Are you able to still get cover via normal unit promotion (so the testudo + cover1 = 48% more cover)
