[BNW] Civilizations of Faerun - Icewind Dale

The Dale is a harsh mistress, whose cold is constant, unforgiving, and challenges the hardiest of men. She has seen war and disaster, yet those who inhabit those frozen woods remain strong and stand firm.

Welcome to Icewind Dale, the frigid tundra in the north of Faerûn. Here the Dale is led by Ulbrec Dinnesmore, Lord of Targos, and Councilmember to the Ten Towns that inhabit the land.

Icewind Dale is a hardy civilization, brimming with culture as it braves the unending cold on the north side of the Spine of the World. With a start bias for tundra, one would think that the cold tundra and snow tiles would set back this civilization, but those of Icewind Dale thrive in these icy climates. The Dale's focuses are on Culture and Trade, seeking to be Culturally Dominant and to succeed in a Tourism Victory, or to win Diplomatically with the aid from the gold generated by their trade caravans. And while this may make the peaceful nation a delicious target for warring Civilizations, those of the Dale are not unknown to war, and are heavily resilient.

The Civilization loves Culture & Tourism, and it loves to grow, be it tall or wide. Nurture your cities to become tall, impenetrable landmarks on the map, or expand the icey empire far and wide to become an economical power.

Ulbrec's unique ability is the Heart of Winter. This trait grants his civilization a free scout at the start of the game. It also empowers all Tundra tiles with +1 Food & Production, as wellas empowering all Snow tiles with +3 Food and +2 Culture.

This ability lets Ulbrec's Civilization thrive in the cold climates near the poles, while being nearly useless when close to the equator or more temperate regions.


The Unique Unit of Icewind Dale would be the Ranger of the Dale. These Rangers are a medieval ranged unit designed for scouting and for defense. They replace the Crossbowman, and ignore all terrain costs like a Scout would, and have increased sight range. They should be used to quickly explore any uncharted regions left in the mid-game, as well as to scout any potential armies that may be marching towards the Icewind civilization borders.


The Unique Building of Icewind Dale would be the Galloway Trading Company. This structure is a classical building that replaces the caravansary.

While performing all of the tasks a normal Caravansary would, this structure also grants +2 Food to the city it is built in. It also provides +1 Tourism once Archaeology is finished.

It is highly, HIGHLY, recommended that you have all of the DLC, along with the required GNK & BNW expansions. As this mod was built with all of the Expansions and DLC in mind, if you do not have all of them, the mod may not work correctly!
