Description
OBO, pronounced "oboe" (yes, like the instrument), stands for "Overall Balance Overhaul."

This mod is a script that tweaks some stats relating to melee weapons, and unlocking all melee weapons in all official campaigns, including the CS Knife, but not including the derpy cut content Riot Shield. See, in vanilla, the Machete was by far the strongest melee weapon because it had the fastest attack speed, and all melee weapons seem to have identical damage and range. Because of this, there were several melee weapons that were very strong, and some that were weak by comparison. And yes, the Frying Pan is stronger in every way than the Katana.

Originally, I wanted to make each weapon have its own swing speeds, damage, and attack ranges, but that just doesn't seem possible. Thus, this mod is limited. Unfortunately, most melee settings are hardcoded, and the few that can be edited are cvars, which means you'll need to get my Dead World gamemode mod for things like melee range, Chainsaw idle sound alert radius, etc... (see the above collections).

So what does this mod do? Aside from unlocking all melee weapons in all official campaigns, this mod will increase total Chainsaw fuel and rebalance melee weapon friendly fire damage.

Note that Cold Stream is not included in the melee weapon unlock portion of this mod, due to conflicts with other mods I use if I add it.


FEATURES:
-Unlocks all melee weapons in all official campaigns (Including the CS:S Knife, but not the broken Riot Shield)
-Increases Chainsaw total fuel by 50% (45 seconds from vanilla's 30).
-Reduces friendly fire damage of all melee weapons drastically, which is useful in tightly-grouped defense

Well thank you for the feedback and testing. I have no idea why this mod is doing anything related to infected models like the Witch bride, but I just pushed a quick update that removes its effect on The Passing. I'd rather have the mod not affect a campaign than crash on one. Thanks again. :)

Yep! I spent 5+ hours yesterday troubleshooting my mods and game files (including a full reinstall) and this mod ended up being the culprit!

Now, I'm no modder, but after doing some spelunking on the interwebs, I think the mod is doing something to The Passing's mission files that is messing up the way it handles loading/precaching the Witch Bride's model. It may have something to do with the melee weapon unlock portion of this mod, since I tested out subscribing to a mod that added some melee spawns to The Passing and it conflicted!

Hey, I know this is a bit of a necro-post, but this mod is causing the first chapter of "The Passing" to crash on load due to an engine error. Something to do with the Witch Bride model failing to be pre-cached.

Yes, as unfortunate as this is, it is true. I've known about it for quite some time and I apologise for only getting around to fixing the description now. I was on a long break from Left 4 Dead 2, but that's no reason for leaving a misleading description up. I apologise. I rewrote the entire desription, edited the mod's name, and edited the preview picture to reflect the mod more accurately. Thank you for the reminder, and I apologise again. :)

You want me to make the Chainsaw able to reload? Unfortunately, I don't think that's possible. It was never meant to be reloaded. And I wouldn't want it to work that way anyway, because the Chainsaw already has a long draw time.

Yeah, that's all been fixed. Melee weapons actually only have melee damages for friendly fire calculation, not for damage against any infected target. I've rewritten the description entirely to make things clearer, so feel free to read that for more info. :)

So, not sure if you know this, but editing a melee weapon's damage value doesn't do much since the damage they deal is pretty hardcoded. In that melee weapons are coded to insta-kill everything except the Charger, Tank, and Witch. And even then they still don't use the damage values; they just deal a fixed percentage of their health.
So basically, the only thing a melee weapon's damage value does is factor into the friendly fire damage calculation.
