Description
OBOW: Pronounced "oboe" (yes, like the instrument), it stands for "Overseer's Balance Overhaul for Weapons".

This is a script that changes the Chrome Shotgun, loading it with slugs instead of buckshot, without breaking game balance. I know, I know, the damage seems way to high to be considered "balanced", but it actually is, because it actually has less damage than the combined damage of my standard buckshot Chrome Shotgun rebalance mod []. It'll basically work like a very accurate shotgun that fires only a single large slug instead of a bunch of pellets. The slugs mean improved penetration to compensate for less area-killing-power, and can also kill a Charger in one shot on any difficulty. But it has its downsides, too. It's trickier to use now, due to Aiming being more precise, which means you'll need to be finicky and careful where you put your shots, since each miss will be a costly mistake. Still, if you can perfect your strategy, this script can be very powerful and will leave you feeling like a boss. Lastly, I decided that, similarly to my standard Chrome Shotgun script, I felt that I needed to buff the magazine size. Why? Because I found that I was constantly reloading, and I wanted to make using this weapon a bit more fluid and less tiresome. To my horror, I discovered that all shotgun reloads are hard-locked and unchangeable. Thus, the only option left to me was a magazine increase. And I know it's not real-world accurate, but judging from the vast majority of other inaccurate magazine sizes in Left 4 Dead 2, I really feel that this change is both justified and necessary.

Here's the list of stat changes:

ReloadDuration - 0.473 to UNCHANGED (Changing this does nothing, not sure why)
DeployDuration - ? to 0.3 (Vanilla value unknown, since I had to add this line)
PenetrationNumLayers - 2 to 4
PenetrationPower - 30 to 70
PenetrationMaxDistance - 500 to UNCHANGED
Damage - 31 to 503
Range - 3000 to UNCHANGED
RangeModifier - 0.7 to UNCHANGED
Bullets - 8 to 1
CycleTime - 0.5 to UNCHANGED (Changing this does nothing, not sure why)
clip_size - 8 to 11
primary_ammo - AMMO_TYPE_SHOTGUN to AMMO_TYPE_AUTOSHOTGUN

Indeed, and cheers for it (Well, the chrome´s pretty awesome by itself but...) a lil twist for its mechanical use is allways good, and even more taking in count these 15 years since the game was released, damn I´m gettin´ older.

Thanks for the compliment! :) Yeah, I didn't test these older ones too heavily because I used my other scripts instead. 503 damage? I must've been aiming for some kind of breakpoint with the Charger's health or something. This script makes the Chrome Shottie more like an AWP than a shotgun. xD

That's probably because this weapon is not perfectly accurate.

Yes, actually. According to Wikipedia at least, pump-action Remington 870s come in models with as many as 11+1 capacities.

I noticed that this mod while very good for variety, is buggy when it comes to hitting targets i've noticed sometimes the pellet lands a little ways away from where im aiming directly at the infected. Is there any fixes to this problem?

I know right? Two near-identical weapons are a waste of potential, I think. The game wasn't really designed for this, but I think I got it working really nicely. Thanks for the thanks. :D

Okay, so I nerfed the damage from 603 to 503, since one-shotting Chargers with a scatter shotgun is tricky to do, but with a slug it was too easy. This should also make its effect on Bosses a bit less drastic.

My Gamemode is in the Collection listed at the top of this page.
