Brionne - Jewel of Bretonnia

Description

The Lore:

Castle Brionne, often called the Jewel of Bretonnia (by the people of Brionne), is a Fortress-City and the ducal capital of Brionne. It genuinely is a remarkably beautiful city, set on a peninsula linked to the mainland by a narrow neck. The peninsula forms a hill, and the city winds up the side, built with the local white stone or, for peasant buildings, white plaster. The sand of the bay is extremely good for making glass, so virtually every window in the city is glazed, and they sparkle in the sunlight. Castle Brionne is at the centre of the city and the peak of the island. It is what other Brionnian castles want to be: the perfect merging of fanciful form and flawless functionality.

About Geography

Brionne is the least threatened of the Bretonnian dukedoms. Carcassonne stands between it and the mountains, Quenelles between it and Athel Loren, and Aquitaine between it and the Forest of Châlons. Even the seas off the coast are forgiving. Most of Brionne is arable land, with some pastoral land in the east and south. The coast is typical of Bretonnia’s cliffs and beaches, and there is a major natural port at the mouth of the River Brienne. The city of Brionne is built here, shining like a jewel set in silver, as entirely too many poets have said. Like Brionne itself, the castles and towns of Brionne are built for beauty rather than practicality. Many nobles have built keeps so as to harmonise with the landscape, but in completely indefensible positions.

My Ongoing Premise for the Map:

The main goal I was trying to achieve with this map is the overall versatility between the Attacker's Approach on the city, and the Defender's ability to secure and contain defensive/advantageous points to apprehend the Attacker's advance.

This map is made so that anywhere and everywhere there are considerations to be taken when placing units to move. Positioning is key to successfully eliminating the enemy, whether it'd be high ground or hard terrain, the victor would be the side that acquires key elements that I have particularly placed in the map.

Warhammer II is nearing, and I will be moving forward with these type of maps as I progress through the second game's modding. And of course, finally, every location in this map tells a story, whether you'd bring a battle toward the Attackers' frontline in the misty forest, cavalry charge them at open plains by the south, rain arrows and artillery fire from elevated positions, or fight within the city and make use of narrow passage ways to gain advantage over the enemy! You tell the story of the fight, make use of the map's entirety to tell your battles.

The map needed rework and consideration in terms of placing tree spots for cover, towns to accommodate units under heavy fire or susceptible to flanking, bridges to put chokes and passage ways to seperate both armies to have the player really decide on how he wants to approach things.

My Other Works:

I am up for any Critique! This is still in the early phases! Oh, and I am also thinking of intergrating a siege version, but this is a settlement battle.
