Description
Did you know the base game has only 9 vanilla soldier backstories? This mod changes that.

WOTC Even More Backstories, aims to increase personal attachment and role-play within your XCOM campaigns with 479 new character backgrounds, with male and female variations.
  • 316 new XCOM soldier backstories
  • 48 new Reaper backstories
  • 56 new Skirmisher backstories
  • 45 new Templar backstories
  • 14 new Engineer & Scientist backstories

The majority of content is community submissions and stories penned myself - together we have developed some interesting tales of survival & hardship in a dark ADVENT world.

This mod will only affect newly spawned rookies or reward soldiers who show up going forwards.

It will not overwrite or update existing soldiers in your roster or recruitment pool.

Recommended Mods

Birthdates WOTC - SUPPORTED: A custom date of birth range configured for each backstory.

Non-Skirmisher ADVENT Hybrids - SUPPORTED: 56 new hybrid backstories.

Biography on Armory Screen - Puts backstories on the Armory Screen.

WOTC Random Soldier Info - Lets you spawn a new random bio on your soldier.

General Compatibility

Incompatible with any mod that targets [X2CharacterTemplate] - which basically means another backstory mod.

Compatible with all XCOM class mods.

Known issue with WC_PhotoRebooth: Soldier birthdates are corrupt. Please see the Discussions Tab for a fix.

Having issues via Steam Launcher?

2K broke the XCOM 2 launcher when they added promo advertising - about 50% of mods now randomly fail to load with it.

The community created a tool called the Alternative Mod Launcher[github.com] to fix this problem. Instead of launching by Steam, you simply launch with AML instead.

Install Folder:

\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\1135224960

The actual backstories can be viewed in the Localization folder. Open XcomGame.Int with Notepad.

French / German / Non-English Version?

No translation exists at this time.

If you want to use this mod with a different base-game language, simply navigate to the install folder listed above. Change the extension of 'XcomGame.Int' to be .fra / .deu / .rus - etc.

Note the backstories will still be in English. Thanks to Pepitoxxx for this tip.

Links / Shameless Promotion

I mod occasionally. Curate a little. Sometimes even play XCOM.

Gameplay changes! CWG Collection, built for a Legendary Ironman experience.

Please kindly take a moment to rate up if you enjoy the mod. It helps visibility on the workshop and generally makes me feel happy about the 100+ editorial hours I've sunk into it. Thank you!

Just want to say this mod is fantastic. I've had it on for two full playthroughs and loved the depth they added. I ended up customizing my soldiers to make them fit the new backstories and was had a blast doing it.

Can't find it. Too many files without a clear name. I'm just a casual.

I think you'd need to download the mod.

The vanilla game biographies should be some where in:
<Steam>\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\Localization\INT\XComGame.int

Find a biography in game then open the .int in a text editor and search for some of that text.

@dragon32
I was hoping to do it without installing the mod itself. Would also like to know if I can find the default bios that are available in game in a folder file?

Ok I found myself. If you are using spanish version, use .esn, not .esp
