Recruits Conserve Character Pool

Description
This mod conserves your Character Pool so that you can continue to receive Pool soldiers as mid- to late-game rewards.

DETAILS

The game's default behavior is to pull five Character Pool soldiers into your Recruit Soldiers list every month. By mid- to late-game most of your Character Pool will be sitting in that list, useless.

To change that behavior, this mod uses an ini change to stop adding soldiers to the Recruit Soldiers list every month. Then it overrides the UIRecruitSoldiers screen so a new soldier gets added to the list only each time you recruit one. This keeps the Recruit Soldiers list at a constant size (by default, 10 soldiers) for the entire game. It ensures that Pool characters are not added to this list when there's no chance you'll ever recruit them.

CONFIGURATION

The length of the Recruit Soldiers list at campaign start can be changed via the StartingNumRecruits value in your XComGameData.ini file. Personally I like to change it to 1 so that I'm forced to take whomever my Pool gives me, rather than letting me pick favorites.

MID-CAMPAIGN

If you start using this mod mid-campaign it won't do as much. It'll curb the growth of your Recruit Soldiers list, but any Pool soldiers in the list are there to stay; it doesn't reduce the existing list. It will, however, help you get the most out of any soldiers you add to your Pool mid-campaign; you should see them as mission rewards rather than seeing them dumped into the Recruit list at month's end.

COMPATIBILITY

This mod is built for War of the Chosen, but it should also work if you ignore the launcher warning and use it with the base game.

This mod overrides the UIRecruitSolders class.

DISABLING THE MOD

There's no harm to disabling this mod. It won't corrupt your save.
