Tokyo Ghoul ( Japanese: 東京喰種 - トーキョーグール - Tōkyō Gūru ) is a dark fantasy manga series by Sui Ishida that was serialized in Shueisha 's Weekly Young Jump magazine from September 2011 to September 2014 , with the collected chapters published in 14 volumes. A sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re, was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from October 2014 to July 2018 , and has been collected in 17 volumes.

A 12-episode anime television series adaptation by Studio Pierrot aired on Tokyo MX between July and September 2014. A second 12-episode season, Tokyo Ghoul √A (pronounced Tokyo Ghoul Root A ), aired between January and March 2015. A live-action film based on the manga was released in Japan in July 2017. An anime adaptation of the manga's sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re , also aired across two seasons; the first from April to June 2018, and the second from October to December 2018
