After completing the main storyline, I can confidently say that it was a remarkable journey. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting this game to be as good and astonishing as it turned out to be. When I bought it, I thought it was just another story about a god-killer. In reality, it turned out to be an amazing reboot of the series, offering more emotional depth than any of the previous games — and, frankly, more than most games overall.

This God of War takes a very different approach compared to its predecessors. While the earlier games focused on Kratos destroying everything and everyone in his path, this installment delves into themes of remorse, redemption and reckoning with the past. Instead of merely slaying another god (or gods), the story revolves around the father-son dynamic, and the developers handled it masterfully, or at least to a very high standard. The main storyline kept me hooked throughout, and at no point did I feel the urge to stop playing or just drop the game.

The graphics are stunning, even when compared to newer titles, and the gameplay holds its own. While I can’t say the gameplay is entirely without flaws, these minor drawbacks don’t detract from the overall experience. I particularly appreciated how Santa Monica Studio crafted a combat system that’s simple yet engaging, epic without feeling overwhelming. I would also like to point out a sense of cyclicality that some players might notice. There aren’t that many enemy types in the game (aside from the main bosses), and while certain elements are varied in some ways, the core remains the same. However, the game manages to counterbalance this repetition effectively, which is quite satisfying and ensures it doesn’t become a significant drawback for the majority of players.

In conclusion, I’d say this game is absolutely worth everyone’s attention. God of War has rightfully earned its accolades (though I wouldn’t rank it above RDR2 in terms of Game of the Year). If you’ve ever considered trying it, I highly recommend at least giving it a shot.
